Carlos Alcaraz reached another final of an ATP tournament this season. He defeated Jannik Sinner 7(7)-6(4), 6-3 in the semi-final round of the Indian Wells Open. He will take on in-form Daniil Medvedev in the final.
However, this is going to be the biggest challenge for the young Spaniard this season. The Russian is in tremendous form and is looking to end his drought in this Masters tournament by winning the trophy and title this time.
Carlos Alcaraz is aware of it. He in his recent interview talked about his opinions on taking on Daniil Medvedev in the final. The Tennis Letter shared his views on social media.
“Carlos Alcaraz on facing Medvedev: “I’m an ambitious guy. I want to play the best player in the world. If you want to be the best, you must beat the best. Daniil is the best right now. For me it will be a difficult challenge, but I’m prepared. I’ll show my best in the final“,” the caption read.
Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz has met each other in a tennis tournament only once. The Russian won the 2021 Wimbledon first-round match 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.

Carlos Alcaraz make a steady return after injury
The nasty injury in the Paris Masters 2022 semi-final round match against Holger Rune led him to sit out for the last couple of months of the 2022 season and the first month of the 2023 season. He also missed out on playing in the Australian Open. After these setbacks, he made his return in the Argentina Open which he won. He also reached the final of the Rio Open but lost the Championship to Cameron Norrie.
But a sudden injury led him again to miss action at Mexican Open. Hence, many feared that he would not be able to perform as well and enthusiastically in the Indian Wells Open. One of them was former Swedish tennis legend Mats Wilander. However, he proved all his critics wrong.
“I saw all his matches in Argentina and Brazil, and I was afraid that I wouldn’t see the same enthusiasm on the court, but that’s not the case and the public reacted very well. We all have the same feeling that Carlos Alcaraz is the best thing to happen to tennis in a very long time, because of his behavior on the court and his way of playing,” he acknowledged.
Carlos Alcaraz will have a golden opportunity to win his career’s first Indian Wells Open men’s singles title and reclaim World No.1 spot of the ATP singles rankings.
