“Double Fault!” Simona Halep to get divorced from her multi-millionaire husband Toni Iuruc just a few days ahead of their first anniversary
Simona Halep with her husband Toni Iuruc
Simona Halep, the former world number one had a shocking first-round elimination in the first round of the 2022 US Open against qualifier Daria Snigur of Ukraine. She was one of the favorites going into the US Open but the Ukrainian outplayed the Romanian in all departments and handed Halep one of the big upsets in an hour and 40 minutes of play.
The two-time Grand Slam champion faced a panic attack during the second-round match at the French Open and hence failed to concentrate on the game and eventually lost the match. She was ranked in the top 10 for 373 consecutive weeks, the eighth-longest streak in WTA history and is undoubtedly the greatest tennis star in Romania.
She had made a good start to the hard-court swing by winning the WTA 1000 title in Toronto but was forced to retire from the Cinncinati Open due to an injury. She had a fair share of wins and losses this season as she has made almost six sem-final appearances in the WTA events including her semi-final appearance at Wimbledon where she lost to the eventual winner Elena Rybakina. She had also won the Melbourne Summer Series 1 title but was eliminated in the fourth-round finish at the Australian Open.
Simona Halep mutually part ways with Toni Iuruc within a year of marriage
After her devasting loss at the US Open, things went worse when Halep faced a shock in her personal life when she mutually decided to part ways with her millionaire husband Toni Iuruc. Initially, he refused to make any personal comments and was visibly upset. Later on, Iuruc confirmed the separation news stating “We decided together with Simona to break up! Stop insisting, it’s my last public appearance. The rest will be handled by the lawyers in the most civilized way possible. Thank you for understanding.”
Halep and Iuruc tied the knot in a civil ceremony in September 2021. This news came just a few days ahead of their first anniversary and their religious marriage was planned for November 13th at Casino Sinaia in Romania but it looks like that will no longer take place.
Reports suggest that the growing distance between them is one of the main reasons for their divorce however they both have not commented on the reason behind their decision. Moreover, Halep’s loss at the US Open pushed back their relationship further. Despite their divorce, there won’t be any settlement regarding the money, which they have already decided against.
