Emma Raducanu has retracted her comment about regretting her 2021 US Open title victory. The Briton is now convinced that the unique Grand Slam title achievement cannot be traded for anything else in the world.

Raducanu made history two and a half years ago, at just 18, by winning the US Open as a qualifier with 10 straight-set victories in the competition. Making her the youngest, after Serena Williams, to win the Major title based in New York.

However, it was after the memorable win that the 21-year-old began to experience the negative side of fame. Each tournament she played was scrutinized and heavily criticized by the press, especially when she had to face defeat.

During her rehabilitation after sustaining an injury last year, she was still blasted for going on vacation or having fun with friends. That led her to confess to the Sunday Times in June last year that she sometimes wished she had never won the US Open.

Sometimes I think to myself I wish I'd never won the US Open, I wish that didn't happen.
She said

At the time of the interview with the media outlet, the British star was just recovering from multiple surgeries that she underwent in May. Despite the challenges, in Raducanu’s third tournament in her comeback season, she retracted her words about her US Open title regret.

Yeah, I think when I was saying those things, I hadn’t necessarily had the time to take a step back and reflect. Now in the position that I’m in, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. But I think I was so wrapped up and so caught up in everything, in the whirlwind that happened after. And now having come through injury with a different perspective, I’m really grateful that I did so.

With that being said, there is no denying that the young tennis star is still finding it difficult to cope with her numerous challenges. This year, she has won only two games, a first-round win at the Brisbane International and the Abu Dhabi Open.

She suffered an early exit at the 2024 Australian Open and a second-round loss to Ons Jabeur in Abu Dhabi, leaving her a slim chance of winning any title this season.

Emma Raducanu’s injury-prone career

Emma Raducanu’s career has been exploited by constant injuries and physical pain. However, despite putting much effort into the gym and off-season training she doesn’t look physically fit.

She missed the 2022 season due to multiple injuries. After recovering, in the 2023 Auckland Open first-round match, she slipped and injured her ankle.

After rehabilitation, a first-round exit in Miami and Stuttgart was enough to cause discomfort and wrist pain, which led to multiple surgeries.

Before returning for the 2024 season, she hired Andy Murray‘s former strength and conditioning coach, Jez Green. Jez advised her to work hard and get her body stronger, and that has worked this season, but it remains too early to determine the result.
