Holger Rune made it to the finals of two ATP tournaments in a matter of a couple of weeks. He won one while losing another. His recent performances have helped him to climb in the ATP singles rankings. He is currently ranked as No.7 in the world.

Holger Rune played in the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters against Andrey Rublev but he could not win the tournament. However, his performances in the competition were largely appreciated. But still, there is also a negative perception that is growing about him.

In the semi-final match against Jannik Sinner, he took the help of tactics that many thought was against the spirit of the sport. In the end, the Italian lost the match 6-1, 5-7, 5-7. Although, Holger Rune, won the match he was booed by the crowd.

In a recent interview he gave on the sidelines of the Bavarian International tournament in Munich, Germany, he talked about his attitude and the comments he made during the match. He admitted that there was a lot of negativity experienced during the match but he was able to excel in it.

The Tennis Majors shared an excerpt of this interview on social media.

“Against Sinner in Monte-Carlo, I used some negative emotions as a fuel and I managed to play much better. For the majority of the time, I would say that I play better when I am calm and show positive emotions,” the caption read.

Holger Rune defeated Botic van de Zandschulp in a repeat of last year’s final to clinch the Bavarian International 2023 singles title. The scoreline read 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7/3) in favor of the Dane.

Holger Rune is ready for the Madrid Open

The young Danish tennis professional is being counted among the favorites to win the men’s singles title in Madrid. His recent form and fitness levels can be an indicator of the better things to come for Holger Rune.

However, despite the absence of both legends – Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic choosing to give Madrid Open 2023 a miss, the competition level will be high for the 19-year-old. He will be one amongst many brilliant tennis players who excel on the clay surface.

But the experience of playing two back-to-back finals of ATP tournaments may very well help the young Dane. It is expected that he will be making deeper inroads in this tournament. This is his debut in the Madrid Open and he too would like to make it memorable.
