Novak Djokovic‘s 2022 season will always be a topic of debate for years to come. Having refused to take the Covid-19 vaccine until at least he has retired, the Serbian was denied entry into Australia, USA and Canada. Novak was forced to sit out from the events in the three counties and it led to massive outrage by his fans.

This week has been good for Djokovic however. Both USA and Canada have lifted their vaccine mandates. The decision now allows Djokovic to enter the country. He would however feel a little sad as no Tour event of significance to him is scheduled as the decision comes weeks after the North American Swing ends.

As a result of the vaccine mandates, Djokovic slipped from the World No. 1 position to World No. 7 at one point. He also missed two Grand Slam titles and had to see Rafael Nadal take a two-major lead over him having tied the Spaniard and Roger Federer by winning the 2021 Wimbledon.

Fans of the Serbian were however unhappy over the timing of the decision. They took to social media to criticise the Justin Trudeau-led Canadian government for taking the decision too late. Many others criticised the government for continuing with the mask mandate despite removing the vaccine policy.

With the remainder of the Tour to be played majorly in Europe, Djokovic will again be a Tour regular in order to climb back towards the top of the rankings as he is currently ranked 7th with 3570 points, more than 1300 points away from 6th ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas who has 4810 points as per the latest ranking update.
