Jannik Sinner has become the first-ever Italian tennis player to win 55 matches in a season after beating Andrey Rublev in straight sets in the semi-final of the 2023 Vienna Open. The Italian will now face Daniil Medvedev in the final of the tournament, which will be an exact repetition of the 2023 China Open final.

Sinner is fourth on the world rankings and already the highest-rated Italian player ever in the history of the sport. He is thus already breaking records out here and might soon become the only Italian player ever to become World No. 1 at this pace. Jannik Sinner has had a brilliant season in 2023 and winning the Vienna Open too will just make it even better.

He recently won the 2023 China Open against all odds. Sinner beat Grigor Dimitrov and Carlos Alcaraz en route to the final and in the final, he beat the Russian in straight sets without any struggle at all. He was perfect throughout the tournament and if is he is able to maintain that in the final of the Vienna Open as well, then it will not be difficult for the Italian to repeat the results.

Sinner has had a pretty difficult route to the final in the 2023 Vienna Open. He defeated the likes of Ben Shelton (taking his revenge for his recent defeat in the Shanghai Open), Lorenzo Sonego, Frances Tiafoe, and Andrey Rublev before finally making it to the final. He has had arguably the hardest route to the final in this tournament.

Jannik Sinner’s head-to-head record against Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev is 6-1 ahead over Jannik Sinner in head to head matches. Evidently, all of their matches so far have been played on the hard court itself. This makes Sinner’s recent win over the Russian in the China Open even more special because it was the first time that he defeated the Russian.

If the Italian is to repeat history and win the 2023 Vienna Open, he will have to drop a terrific performance once again and defeat Daniil Medvedev, which seems like a possibility. If his form in the ongoing tournament is any hint, Sinner might in fact step into this match as the favorite to win it.
