Jelena Ostapenko really knows how to stir people up. However, this time she was on the right side of the argument. She was able to defeat Beatriz Haddad Maia in her tough second-round match at the Miami Open 2023.

But throughout the match she also had to deal with a hostile crowd. Her agonies were noticeable throughout the match. But after the match got over, she rubbed it in on the crowd in her post-match on-court interview but with a smile.

YouTube video

The Tennis Letter shared an excerpt of this video on social media.

“Jelena Ostapenko calling the crowd disrespectful and then smiling at them right after is such a mood. This woman can do no wrong,” the caption read.

“I am really happy today to win…and of course the crowd was mostly against me. A little bit disrespectful but thanks guys who were supporting me. I really appreciate and yeah I am just really proud of myself that I was firing and felt like a football match today. you know!” she was heard saying.

Jelena Ostapenko will take on Martina Trevisan in her third round match of the Miami Open.

Jelena Ostapenko is finding it hard to gain victories in the Sunshine Doubles. In the Indian Wells Open, she could only manage to reach second-round of the tournament in the singles event. Her challenge was blown away by Petra Kvitova. Hence, she had a sigh of relief when she reached the third-round in the Miami Open.

In the Indian Wells Open, she also participated in the doubles event with Ukrainian player Lyudmyla Kichenok but could not advance past second-round. She was defeated by the Brazilian-German pair of Beatriz Haddad Maia and Laura Siegemund. The Ukrainian-Latvian pair will face the all-Russian pair of Liudmila Samsonova and Veronika Kudermetova.

Meanwhile, her recent comments on the crowd has seen many reactions from the social media users. Social media users found it funny and are taking the comments made by her in the post-match interview lightly. However, many are also bashing her. Here are a few reactions that came in.

The legend.

I’m not a big fan of hers by any means, but I do find the crowd lately to be unbearable and completely, and totally disrespectful and out of line.

To get respect you have to earn it and that doesn't mean winning a match.

She doesn't come across as being a very humble person and it's not confidence it's just arrogance. Learn some humility. https://t.co/Iev2dmKYvY
