Martina Navratilova has voiced her support for World Athletics as they have disallowed transgender women from competing against biological females in track and field events. The former tennis player, who has won 18 Grand Slam tournaments and nine Wimbledon championships, wrote an op-ed in The Times of UK on Sunday, stating that the decision made by World Athletics is a “step in the right direction.”

Martina Navratilova suggested that a possible solution following World Athletics’ decision to prohibit transgender women from competing against biological females would be to have three separate categories: “biological female,” “biological girls,” and an “open” category. She expressed her support for the decision and wrote an op-ed in The Times of UK, calling it a step in the right direction.

Navratilova proposed the “open” category would include all competitors, regardless of their gender identity. This category would allow men who identify as men, women who identify as women, women who identify as men, men who identify as women, and non-binary individuals to participate. According to her, this solution is already being explored in athletics and swimming in Britain.

According to Navratilova, it is most probable that biological females will continue to compete in the female category, as it is where they have the best chance of winning and it ensures fairness. She suggested an “open” category which eliminates any doubts and confusion, with no conditions, exceptions, or asterisks. This is a straightforward solution.
