Martina Navratilova with her wife Julia Lemigova wanted to adopt children, but the diagnosis of twin cancers toppled her plans. The couple had to put their plans on the back-burner for now as American tennis legend needs to recover from this condition.
The nine-time Wimbledon champion is suffering from throat and breast cancer. However, this is not her first battle with cancer. She was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier too but she fought her way and soon became healthy by 2010.
Meanwhile, in an interview Julia Lemigova talked about how the diagnosis has changed the situation for the couple.
“When you’re adopting a child, it has to be about the child. And right now it’s everything about Martina and for her getting (healthy). We’re putting it on hold. Even the sad moments seem to be so not important,” she said.
Julia Lemigova also talked about how both of them were hoping to make the adoption and were actually very close. However, now Martina Navratilova’s condition is their now top priority.
“We were thinking any moment the agency would call and give us the happy news that we were going to have a baby. Instead, we are fighting two cancers. Like one is not enough. I’m just waiting for Martina to get better. We’re not thinking about adoption. We’re thinking about Martina. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens,” she continued.
Martina Navratilova and Julia Lemigova married each other in 2014.
Martina Navratilova is determined to fight this condition

The four-time US Open champion was invited by a leading sports channel to give her views on the matches played in the Australian Open this season. However, news of her cancer diagnosis right at the start of the year shook the world. Her fans, tennis legends, critics and media, sent her best wishes and are constantly praying for the restoration of her good health.
“This double whammy is serious but still fixable. I’m hoping for a favorable outcome. It’s going to stink for a while but I’ll fight with all I have got,” Martina Navratilova had said at that time.
The two-time French Open champion, however, continues to make her opinions and views on different issues known to the larger public through social media. These issues range from political, economic, social, foreign affairs, etc. She has been quite vocal and on these fronts. Cancer has not been able to dent her spirits.
