Elena Rybakina vs Petra Kvitova : Preview
Elena Rybakina is one win away from completing the Sunshine Double coming fresh from the title in Indian Wells. After a rocky start in the first two matches in Miami, both going three-setters, Rybakina has been much better. She had to save a match point against Paula Badosa but since then it has been a more controlled run for the Kazakh star. She defeated Jessica Pegula in the semi-finals winning the match 7-6(3), 6-4 to make her place in the finals.
Having last lost a match back in February, the ace machine is stamping her authority on the Tour as she is into the Top 10 for the first time. A win in the finals could see her jump to World No. 6 spot ending the hardcourt season on a high before the Golden Swing starts.
Petra Kvitova is reinventing herself as she looks to re-enter the Top 10 having dropped out back in 2021. The former World No. 2 got the better of Sorana Cirstea beating her 7-5, 6-4 to record her fourth straight-set win in five matches this week in Miami. Ekaterina Alexandrova was the only player to take a set off from the Czech girl as she has looked flawless otherwise.
Kvitova made it to the quarter-finals in Indian Wells before losing to Maria Sakkari in a close-fought three-setter. After a mixed run during this brief hardcourt season, a title in Miami would be a great way to cap off the first spell of the season before making her way to the clay courts.
This will be the third meeting between the two players and the second of the season. Rybakina won their first-ever meeting back in October 2022 before Kvitova settled the score in January this year. The head-to-head is currently tied at 1-1.
Elena Rybakina vs Petra Kvitova: Prediction
Petra Kvitova is an eight-time winner in WTA-1000 events out of her 12 final appearances so far. A two-time Wimbledon winner and a runner-up in the Australian Open, there is no dearth of experience with the Czech. On the other hand, Elena Rybakina is playing in just her second WTA-1000 final with the other one being the previous week’s Indian Wells title run.
As both the Wimbledon champions lock horns, considering the present form, Rybakina looks to be the winner. Her accurate aces and killer forehand make her the favorite over the experienced Kvitova who would need to replicate a backboard and select her moments to attack to have her chance in the finals.
Prediction: Elena Rybakina to win in straight sets.
