Novak Djokovic draws ire of the Albanians for his support on “Kosovo is Serbia” chants during a basketball match
Novak Djokovic has to face flak from the Albanian social media users for his controversial gestures.

Novak Djokovic has involved himself in another controversy. This time he was seen supporting the KK Crvena Zvezda fans who believe that the breakaway country of Kosovo is a part of Serbia. The Serbian fans were openly chanting slogans“Kosovo is Serbia” during a basketball game in EuroLeague.
This incident, occurred during a match between KK Crvena Zvezda (Also known as Red Star) and Valencia Club. The 22-time Grand Slam champion came to the stadium to watch both the teams play. He not only greeted the fans after the fierce chanting but also raised his fist in support of the fans.
According to media reports, this gesture made his fans in Serbia very happy but disappointed people of Kosovo and Metohija. Persons of this community who are mostly based in Albania and other parts of the world took to social media to express their anger at this incident. Albanian people also vented out their anger against him on this incident.
“They call each other Kosovo – Serbia, Djokovic raised his fist high,” the caption read.
Another social media user also targeted the current World No.2 for his support.
“Djokovic raises his fist in support of terrifying chauvinist anti-Kosovo chants during a basketball game. He recently stated that he has chosen to “forgive” NATO for intervening against Milosevic’s genocidal regime,” the caption read.
Meanwhile, in the match KK Crvena Zvezda defeated Valencia 92-73. Novak Djokovic will travel to Monte-Carlo to participate in the ATP 1000 tournament Monte-Carlo Masters.

Novak Djokovic can participate in the US Open 2023

Although, the 10-time Australian Open champion missed the Sunshine Doubles because of the US Federal Government’s double vaccination mandate against Covid-19, he will be allowed to participate in the US Open. The US Senate decided to end the legislation and all the laws regarding this recently. It was soon signed into a law by President Joe Biden, paving way for Novak Djokovic to travel to the USA.
“I really want to be playing there, want to be there,” he had said in an interview last month.
This also means that he will be able to participate in other competitions that are held in the USA. These include Cincinnati Masters, Washington Open, Atlanta Open amongst others.
This is the first time in last two years, Novak Djokovic will be able to play in the US Open. He last played the final of this Major in 2021, where he lost to Daniil Medvedev. At that time, he also lost the chance for a Calendar Slam. He has won this Major thrice in his career but is hungry for more.
