Tennis continues to remain one of the most popular sports in the world and the likes of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are the biggest reasons for it. Both men are currently the two most successful Grand Slam champions in the sport with Nadal leading the race with 22 majors while Djokovic on 21.

As the year is coming to an end, Google, the largest search engine in the world, is releasing various lists revealing what were the most popular and recurring searches made by users. As per the data of the year, the top 10 results were also released along with the queries made by people across the globe.

One such list released by Google included the most searched athletes in the year 2022. Among the Top-10, four tennis players made their way, the most for any sport. Djokovic was revealed to be the most searched athlete this year followed by Nadal in the second place and 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams, in the third spot.

Carlos Alcaraz, the current World No. 1 on the ATP Tour, also made his way to the list. The 19-year-old was the 10th most searched athlete on the search engine this year. Given his fantastic season where he won 5 titles including the 2022 US Open, the rising popularity of the Spaniard meant that he made the list for the first time.

Djokovic‘s vaccine saga in Australia earlier this year made saw him being searched a lot of times on the search engine thus giving him the top spot. He was again a subject of great debate during the US Open as well as he was not allowed to enter the country due to being unvaccinated against Covid-19.

Following Williams in the third spot, NFL linebacker Manti Te’o secured fourth place followed by compatriot Shaun White, a former snowboarder, and skateboarder. Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu was ranked sixth on the list ranking above seventh-placed Brittney Griner, the WNBA star currently arrested in Russia.

Retired football star Gerard Pique is in the eight spots following his highly controversial breakup with his partner Shakira. The ninth spot was taken by former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez with Alcaraz closing the list on the tenth spot.
