With a slew of excitement, impressive gameplay, head on clashes and of course record breaking performances, 2022 season is finally over. Novak Djokovic defeated Norwegian Casper Ruud in the finals of the Year-end Championship in straight sets 7-5,6-3 in 1 hour and 32 minutes. The win marked his sixth title in Turin as he equals the record with Roger Federer. He remained undefeated through the tournament and only dropped only one set which came in his third match of the group stage.

He defeated Taylor Fritz in the semifinals in straight sets in 1 hour and 53 minutes of play to make his eighth appearance in the final two. He has been playing exceptionally well after being forced to skip the North American swing as he has won 17 out of his last 18 matches post the US Open. His only loss came in the finals of the 2022 Paris Masters, where he failed to defend his title.

The previous record was claimed by Federer who had won his sixth and last ATP Finals in 2011 when he was 30 years and 3 months old. With Djokovic’s win, he unlocked another achievement to his name as he is now the oldest champion in history to win the ATP Finals at 35 years and three months. He claimed the ATP Finals title after a gap of seven years since he had last won it in 2015.

It was his fourth final after the US Open and looked calm and focused throughout the match. Despite having a rough year where he was denied to participate in two Grand Slam events, he finished on a perfect note and improved his rankings.

The iconic rivalry between Federer and Djokovic needs no introduction as they have played 50 times against each other, with Novak Djokovic leading the head-to-head record 27–23, including 13–6 in finals. He picked the finals match against Federer in the year 2012 as his most cherished moment out of all his outings in Turin.
