“The louder and more emotional it is the better,” Boris Becker believes Novak Djokovic ‘thrives’ playing in noisy atmospheres
Boris Becker heaps praise on Novak Djokovic after dominant win at Australian Open 2023.

Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic stormed into the semifinals of the Australian Open 2023, with a straight sets victory over Andrey Rublev on Wednesday. The fans had turned up in huge numbers to watch the much-anticipated quarterfinals at the Rod Laver Arena. Former coach of Novak Djokovic, Boris Becker had reserved some high praise for the fourth seed at the Australian Open 2023.
Boris Becker believes that Novak Djokovic thrives playing inside noisy stadiums, as it brings out the best performance in him. Time and time again, we have seen the crowd turning hostile against the Serb, however, he always manages to come back with a response. The atmosphere inside the Rod Laver Arena during the quarterfinal battle was pretty energetic, with the chair umpire requesting the fans to stop making noises in-between the points.
“It’s a theatrical play on the court, where you want to entertain your spectators. The louder and more emotional it is the better for the performances of the players – and Djokovic, in particular, thrives on that,” said Djokovic.

“I’m not surprised,” Boris Becker on Novak Djokovic’s performance against Andrey Rublev

Boris Becker stated that he was not surprised by Novak Djokovic’s quality of tennis during his win over Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals. Instead, the German expects the same from the 35-year-old every single game. Despite facing setbacks, Boris Becker believes that the Serbian has always had the motivation to perform at a top level.
“I’m not surprised, but repeatedly impressed that he is able to deliver his performances again and again. He has been on the tennis tour for quite a few years now, and he has been a bit injured physically – that he always finds the motivation and the strength to play his best tennis right on the dot is impressive. The most important thing is that he doesn’t let that impress him now – the semi-final is coming up and he must not look to the future too euphorically,” said Becker.
Novak Djokovic will face Tommy Paul for a place in the finals of the Australian Open 2023. The American ended his fellow countryman, Bryan Shelton’s run in Melbourne with a four sets victory. This will be the first meeting between the two players, with Novak Djokovic entering the contest as the clear favorite.
