Novak Djokovic had another successful outing at the Rod Laver Arena today in the 2023 Australian Open. The Serb was up against Russian No. 1 Andrey Rublev but faced no real challenge. In all fairness and taking nothing away from Rublev, Djokovic did not allow him to get into the game. Nole dictated the match right from the first set and it remained so till the match point.

Djokovic won the match 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 to enter his 10th Australian Open semi-final. He is yet to lose a semis clash in Melbourne Park. He even mentioned the tricky conditions tonight in Melbourne Park to debunk any theory that Rublev didn’t show up. “It was very tricky with the wind, people don’t see it on TV, but you need to make a lot of adjustments. The scoreline in the first two sets doesn’t reflect the match,” said Djokovic during his on-court interview.

Today’s on-court interview of the former World No. 1 was extra special for the Djokovic family. Speaking with Jim Courier, Djokovic added that he wanted to dedicate this win to his physio Miljan who celebrates his birthday today. He also mentioned his mother Dijana, who celebrated her birthday yesterday. He took to his Instagram stories to wish his mom yesterday but gave her a fantastic gift today.

“I would like to say something. Today is the birthday of my physiotherapist who is not here at the moment. He left for the locker room. I just want to say Happy Birthday to him and Happy Birthday to my mother. Her’s was yesterday. So my mum’s here. Love you mom,” said Djokovic before breaking into a birthday song as the rest joined in.

With the win over Andrey Rublev, Novak Djokovic is the last singles entrant in the semi-finals at the 2023 Australian Open. Stefanos Tsitsipas will take on Karen Khachanov while Djokovic takes on first-time Grand Slam semi-finalist Tommy Paul. Paul confirmed his place earlier in the day with a win over fellow American Ben Shelton in over four sets.

As in the women’s singles, Elena Rybakina will take on two-time Australian Open winner Victoria Azarenka. In the second semi-final, Magda Linette will take on Aryna Sabalenka with both women looking for their first Grand Slam finals qualification. The ladies will have their semi-finals on the 26th of January while the Men’s will next play on the 27th.
