Tennis legend from America Venus Williams is one of the flag bearers of women’s tennis who has inspired millions around the world. She, along with her sister Serena Williams, was an undefeated pair in the Grand Slam finals who together won 14 doubles Grand Slams and 3 Olympic Gold medals. She was spotted in a white deep-neckline Elie Saab dress at the 94th Academy Awards, but an unfortunate incident shook her fashion choices.
Both Williams sisters have been coached by their father, Richard Williams from a young age, who has played an integral part in shaping their careers. Under his leadership and training, Serena and Venus Williams have achieved numerous accolades and went on to become one of the greatest players of all time.
Richard Williams’ impactful contribution to the lives of the Williams sisters was documented in a movie called ‘King Richard’ which was played by the famous Hollywood actor Will Smith. He received critical acclaim for his performance and won numerous awards including the 2022 Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. It was attended by the 7-time Grand Slam champion, retired American player along with her husband Alexis Ohanian, and their mother.
As Smith was on the stage giving his acceptance speech on receiving the award, Venus Williams encountered a wardrobe malfunction with her gown. She tried to cover her chest with her arms as the fabric slipped and revealed her nipples but all went in vain. It became hugely awkward for the Wimbledon champion as the camera focused on her.
Venus Williams hopes of making a strong comeback next season
She had returned to action after a year at Wimbledon and played in the doubles category but lost in the first round. Since her comeback, she had failed to make her presence for a longer duration at the tournaments. Since she hasn’t been consistent on the Tour and with her younger sisters’ retirement, questions have been doing the rounds about the longevity of her career.
But she shut down all rumors and delighted her fans by releasing a video of herself. Venus Williams revealed her potential return to tennis next year and talked about how much time she has been spending on tennis courts. The tennis sensation even insisted on her preparations to improve her methods and light-heartedly joked about her relationship with slicing.
She has won 49 singles WTA titles and stands first on the list of the most singles titles by an active player in the Open Era. She made her debut in 1994 at 14 and she hasn’t retired yet from the circuit aged 42. She is also one of only two active players to have reached the singles finals of all four majors, along with Serena.
