Camila Giorgi had to face a tough opponent in Kaia Kanepi in the first round of the Miami Open. However, she played her formidable game to win the match 7-6 (7/4), 6-7 (4/7), 7-6 (7/4). But during the match she lost her temper and threw her racket in rage.

This incident happened when both the opponents were playing tie-breaker in the second set. She did won the first set but the second set too went into a tie-breaker and a frustrated Camila Giorgi just threw her racket after hitting it hard on the net giving her opponent head start in the tie-breaker with 2-0 lead.

When Camila Giorgi throws her racquet, you know a match is getting spicy. She led Kaia Kanepi by 7-6(4), 4-3 on her own serve with a game point to go up 5-3 in Miami. These two actually seem to be hitting harder than usual today, if that’s possible,” the caption read.

Although, she lost the second set, she picked herself up and her game to win the match in the third set. Camila Giorgi will face veteran Victoria Azarenka in her second-round fixture at the Miami Open 2023.

The Italian player had a difficult start to the season as controversy regarding Covid-19 vaccination certificate to play in the Australian Open 2023, right at the start of the season, blew out of proportions. It was alleged that she forged the document and got false attestations from the doctor. However, the controversy did die down and finally she got the chance to play in the first Grand Slam of the season.

Camila Giorgi looked promising but made it to the third round of the Australian Open. However, here she lost to Belinda Bencic. She then played in the Linz Open and reached the second-round but here lost to Claura Tauson of Denmark. The 31-year old won her first WTA title of this season at Merida Open Akron. She defeated Rebecca Peterson of Sweden in the final.

She then participated in the Monterrey Open but was knocked out in the first round of the tournament itself. In the Indian Wells Open, she lost against Jessica Pegula in her second-round fixture. However, her performances in this season until now has helped her improve her rankings. She is the currently ranked as World No.46 in the WTA singles rankings.
