Alexander Volkanovski is on the path to becoming the greatest featherweight fighter ever. He has displayed utter dominance throughout his entire MMA career. Alexander Volkanovski met NBA point guard Jamal Murray last year, and both athletes explored each other’s profession. Murray coached Volk in the basketball side of the game, and Volk coached Murray in some kickboxing techniques.
Their training footage recently became viral after the basketball star started dominating the NBA playoffs with the Denver Nuggets. In the clip, Murray can be seen correcting the shooting hand position of the featherweight champion. It was a good crossover collaboration between two exceptionally talented athletes at the top of their game. Volk will continue to hope that his friend Murray can get his first NBA title after reaching the finals.
The road to finals was not easy for Jamal Murray and the Nuggets. They were the first seed in the Western Conference. However, during the last stretch of the regular season games, they struggled to close out games. However, it has not tampered with their progression through the playoff. Murray and the Nuggets hope to finish the job against a battle-tested Miami Heat in the 2023 finals.
On the other hand, Volkanovski continues to prepare for his title unification bout against Yair Rodriguez at UFC 290. Rodriguez is known for his unconventional striking and submission skills. He will pose a huge challenge for the conventional fighter in Volkanovski. After the Yair fight, the future remains unknown for Volk. There are talks of the bantamweight champion coming up a weight class to challenge him. Volk also wants to avenge his only in the UFC against Islam Makhachev.
Alexander Volkanovski wishes to fight Conor McGregor

The UFC featherweight division had only a handful of fighters to hold the title. Conor McGregor became the second fighter to hold the belt in 2015. McGregor remained unbeaten during his days as a featherweight fighter. The current champion, Volkanovski, wishes to compete against the Irishman.
Volk said, “He was a featherweight. We’ve got to remember the champions I’ve beat. I’ve beat every other champion in the featherweight division. The only champ I haven’t fought in the featherweight division is Conor McGregor. Conor McGregor in his prime in featherweight division would obviously be the all-time – I’m sure everyone would want to see that right now.”
Volk also called out McGregor on social media and got a reply from the former champion. It remains unlikely that McGregor will fight Volk at some stage. Dana White and the UFC will try to keep Volk in the featherweight division, and McGregor’s future remains unknown. Hence, it might just be a dream fight that never happens.
