‘The CEO of EPO doesn’t want to fight’ – Colby Covington fires shots at Kamaru Usman

Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman
Colby Covington hasn’t fought in almost 9 months, despite remaining fit and free from injuries. He last fought the now-released Tyron Woodley in September, last year. The number 1 ranked welterweight contender has been pretty vocal about getting a title shot in his next fight irrespective of the opponent.
In a recent interview with Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie, Covington claimed that he absolutely deserved the title shot next because of his number 1 ranking in the welterweight division. He took shots at Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman for not giving him a rematch opportunity while wanting to fight number 6 ranked Michael Chiesa. ‘Chaos’ also dubbed Usman as the ‘CEO of EPO’.
‘He wants to fight lightweights‘ – Colby Covington on Kamaru Usman
“I’m the No. 1 contender. There’s a No. 1 next to my name (in the UFC rankings). I’m going to fight for a world title my next fight, whether it’s going to be Marty, where it’s going to be – we don’t know where, we don’t know who yet, but we will fight for the world title next.” [via MMA Junkie]
Covington continued, “Marty’s out there, the CEO of EPO, he doesn’t want to fight. He wants to fight lightweights. He probably wants a trilogy with Masvidal. Last time it was six days, now it’s six weeks, now he probably wants to give Masvidal six months. So he’s only looking to fight lightweights. He wants Michael Chiesa, a guy who is No. 7 in the rankings that was just getting beat by (Anthony) Pettis like a year ago; now he’s not even in the UFC no more. So, it’s a complete joke.” [via MMA Junkie]
The last time Usman and Covington fought, they produced a fight for the ages. In what is considered to be one of the greatest fights in the history of the UFC, Usman finished Covington towards the very end of the fifth round, before putting on an absolute warrior’s performance.
In all probability, Covington deserves the rematch. But the reason Usman isn’t interested, is that he feels he finished him, which he in fact did. However, the fight looks inevitable whatsoever.
