Anthony Pettis was one of the best lightweights in the world. “Showtime” had what it takes to be one of the top fighters in the UFC. Even future Hall-of-Famer Dustin Poirier was stunned by his opponent’s skills during the fight. Recently a clip of Pettis pulling off an amazing leg sweep has gone viral and “The Diamond” himself acknowledged that moment.
Dustin Poirier and Anthony Pettis fought each other at UFC Fight Night 120 back in 2017. Both the fighters rose in the rankings and had a chance to fight for the interim belt. This was going to be Poirier’s biggest win of his career. This fight was a brutal war between both lightweight stars.
Pettis ended up tapping in the third round which gave Poirier a ticket to the interim title shot. During the fight, Pettis was cut in several places and was profusely bleeding. Despite being in a bad position and against the cage, Anthony pulled off an amazing BJJ leg sweep against Poirier. “Showtime” who was defending from his back managed to ankle lock “The Diamond” and bring him back to the ground.
Pettis’ jiu-jitsu often goes under the radar. This move was so smooth and swift, Poirier himself ended up adding this to his arsenal. A fan posted this leg sweep on Twitter and got a reply from Poirier himself. “Anthony Pettis trickery on Dustin Poirier” captioned the fan.

Even though he had a rough go in his last couple of fights and was out of his prime, Pettis ALWAYS went for stuff and tried to make his fights fun and entertaining. There’s something cool and unique in most of his fights that he’d try and do.

Dustin Poirier is currently out from training as he is recovering from a staph infection. Shortly after his incredible win against Michael Chandler at UFC 281, Poirier was admitted to the hospital to treat his infected foot. The former interim lightweight champ bounced back incredibly after his second title fight loss against Charles Oliveira. Following his performance at Madison Square Garden, fans can’t wait to see him back inside the octagon.
