“Steroids from the age of 10,” Bobby Green takes unique approach in pointing to Islam Makhachev’s alleged drug abuse

Bobby green is set to face Drew Dober in the octagon this weekend, in what is anticipated to be a fairly exciting match-up.
There are two things in common between Green and Dober that unite them – firstly, they both fight in the lightweight division, and secondly, that they have both fought Islam Makhachev. During the scrum for his fight, Bobby Green got a chance to speak on the undisputed lightweight champion of the world.
Having answered a simple question about Makhachev, Green looked hesitant before delving into what looked like a contentious topic. He said, “I was scrolling on my YouTube, and I saw this little video, which said Islam [Makhachev] had a little trouble with drugs right? But I don’t see people talking about him.”
He continued, “He said, when he first came over, his school in Russia, they just gave him vitamins… Imagine if you gave someone steroids from the age of 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, how strong you would be.” At this juncture, Green also commented on Russia’s doping ban and said that doping laws in Russia are enforced less strictly than in the US. Interestingly, his omments come in light of his own supsension from the organization nearlier this year, due to the cosumption of a banned susbatance.

Despite these accusations, what a number of fighters who have fought Makhachev have held in common is the Dagestani’s unparalleled strength within the octagon. His coach, Javier Mendez himself states that the fighter could be even stronger than his more popular friend and mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Makhachev’s strength showed in the octagon at the very highest level when he was able to lock Charles Oliveira into an arm triangle, wherein “DO Bronx” had no chance but to tap. To do that to a skilled double black belt BJJ practitioner requires a serious level of power. Speaking about it, Green said, “He was really strong. It makes sense now. Just two guys I moved around with [who had unparalleled strength], and I was like, ‘that’s interesting’. There was something interesting about Islam, I told my coach, ‘its not human.’

Despite the doubled edged nature of his words, Islam Makhachev’s brawn and equally, brain remains without question, a test for anybody on his night. In February, the Russian takes on Alexander Volkanovski in his first title defence, in Perth.
