Conor McGregor is the biggest named mixed martial arts has witnessed. Over the years, the fighter has grown in both fame and fortune. One could even say that the Irish superstar has become synonymous with the sport. In many countries where mixed martial arts is developing or yet to pick up, Conor McGregor is still recognized.

The former two-division champion of the world made his UFC debut in 2013. Since then, there was no stopping the Irishman. McGregor quickly grew over the fans because of his charisma and skills. Further success came McGregor’s way when he knocked out Jose Aldo at UFC 194 and became the undisputed featherweight champion.

This victory over the Brazilian legend was the turning point in Conor’s career. Post his victory against Aldo, McGregor achieved many more feats in his life. The Irishman moved up a weight class and defeated Eddie Alvarez to win the 155-pound crown and become the first two-division champion in the UFC. He also boxed Floyd Mayweather and created a successful career in business.

While many label McGregor as the greatest fighter, inside the octagon, Conor McGregor is known as The Notorious. Often fans wonder why McGregor chose The Notorious as a nickname. During one of his interviews, The Irishman explained the same.

Even though Conor McGregor has achieved quite the name in his career, The Irishman has also faced criticism. Known for his unfiltered trash talk, one can assume that Conor McGregor has acquired the role of being a heel. While the same could be one of the reasons which justify his nickname, Conor McGregor further clarified why he is called The Notorious.

Even before the UFC, McGregor had a reputation for getting into trouble. He said, “The Notorious’, well, I’m notorious for getting into a little bit of trouble, you know? My coach called me that back in the day, and he had (my name) saved in the phone as ‘trouble’, you know. So, it just kind of stuck, you know.”

However, that is not the only reason McGregor is called The Notorious. The influence of the later rapper Notorious B.I.G had a role to play too. McGregor said, “And then, obviously, I’m a fan of ‘The Notorious B.I.G.’. I used his entrance music… I’ve gone through all (of his songs). I’ve gone through a good few entrances.”

Well, there is no doubt that Conor McGregor’s nickname suits his demeanor. Known to get into trouble, the former champion is somewhat Notorious.
