UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev expressed anger with Elon Musk over the blue tick mark. After barely winning his last fight against the featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, Makhachev keeps waiting for a new opponent. However, his recent callout did not feature any fighter on the UFC’s roster. Instead, Islam Makhachev called out Billionaire Elon Musk for taking away the blue tick from his Twitter account.
Twitter saw significant changes after Elon Musk took over the social media company. The multi-billionaire CEO pressed the user base to purchase Twitter Blue. By purchasing a Twitter Blue, users would get the iconic blue tick beside their username and several additional features. Accounts with already existing blue ticks were also required to make the 8-dollar-a-month purchase to keep using the services. Traditionally, a blue tick or a verification badge was given to accounts that were widely recognized or had a huge following.
After the recent update, thousands of social media accounts lost their blue ticks. Islam Makhachev, who also happened to lose his verification badge among others, publicly called-out Musk. He called out Elon Musk and asked him to give it back in his most recent tweet. ” Elon Musk you cheap guy, where’s my blue tick,” wrote Islam on Twitter. However, his tweet had the opposite effect of what Islam had imagined.
Fans who paid for Twitter Blue ended up trolling Makhachev for being unable to pay 8 dollars a month. Many accounts with blue ticks, who were probably not even famous, mocked the lightweight champion for his cheap behavior.
Fans mock Islam Makhachev for taking a dig at Elon Musk
UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev wanted to start a beef with Billionaire Elon Musk. After taking over Twitter, Elon Musk pressed its user base to have an active subscription to Twitter Blue. This way, users can have a blue tick logo beside their username and would also have access to some additional features. Islam Makhachev did not want to pay the subscription and publicly mocked Musk on Twitter. Fans went on Twitter to mock the cheap nature of Makhachev. Check out some of the fan reactions:
Fans mocked Islam by pointing out the irony in his statement. ” We pay to play now blue,” said one of the users. ” The irony in the statement,” posted another user in the comment section. While Islam picks battles outside the UFC, he waits to fight an opponent in Abu Dhabi. The winner of Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush at UFC 289 would most likely fight Makhachev for the title next.
