Jiri Prochazka had to go to war to become the UFC Light Heavyweight champion. He took on Glover Texeira in one of the best and most entertaining UFC matches of all time. Despite Glover winning that match initially, Jiri ended it in dramatic fashion by submitting Texeira late in the first round. However, he made a shocking revelation about that fight in an interview with Marc Raimondi.
In the interview, he talked about how he worked on his mental state, being tested by USADA, and his thoughts on the war he had against Glover at UFC 275. “I’m just working on my mistakes from the last fight. And I dont wanna repeat those mistakes from wrestling, from (jiu)jitsu. And show more from my standup because I showed just about 15-20%”, said the current light heavyweight champion about his thoughts on their first match.
Prochazka was asked whether he took this fight because he wanted to correct his mistakes from the prior fight. However, he promptly denied this and said “I wanna show my best performance. It’s all about that. To be satisfied with that. About satisfaction, and I wanna be more satisfied with my performance.” It would seem from this interview that the fighter from the Czech Republic just wants to put on another clinic as he faces his arch rival in a rematch from their insane title fight.
Jiri Prochazka revealed what sitting in a dark room for 3 days was really about
The UFC light heavyweight champion had earlier revealed that he had spent 3 days in a dark room with no supplies to battle his demons. Safe to say, not many people in the world have tried this. So Marc Raimondi asked Jiri Prochazka why he adopted this method of mental training.
Speaking about this unorthodox training method, Prochazka said, “I don’t like to talk about that a lot because it’s about my personal stuff. But one thing, it’s about searching your inner power. Inner power in quiet places. And where you can take the power from your mind, from the concentration to show it in the cage… I did that many times, its like a part of training.”
Sitting by one’s lonesome in a dark, empty room is not the way most regular fighters would train. However, during the war against Glover, Jiri Prochazka showed that he is no normal fighter. With their highly anticipated rematch right around the corner at UFC 282, Jiri will surely want to recapture some of the fighting spirits he showed in the 5th round against Texeira and prove to everyone why he is the UFC’s light heavyweight champion.
