They don’t make them like Paul Felder anymore! The “Irish Dragon” was one of the toughest fighters to ever grace the octagon and his last fight against Rafael Dos Anjos is proof of that.
UFC Vegas 14 was one of the toughest nights of Paul Felder’s career. The UFC veteran had already shifted his focus towards becoming a full-time commentator. Rafael dos Anjos was scheduled to fight Islam Makhachaev in the main event. However, an infection caused the Dagestani to pull out of the fight just five days prior to fight night.
Paul Felder came to UFC’s rescue as he agreed to fight a former lightweight champion on 5-days notice with no training for five rounds. Though the Irish Dragon did not manage to get a win on that night, he sure did inspire a lot of fighters with his commitment to putting on a fight.
“For guys who missed weight and couldn’t make it here tonight, get your stuff together, hire a nutritionist, get on the scale, make weight, and go perform. I was dying on Thursday night to get on that scale for 156 pounds and I did it and showed up tonight for 25 minutes with no training,” said Felder as he spoke to Michael Bisping in the post-fight interview.
How much weight did Paul Felder lose in 3 days prior to the RDA fight?
Paul Felder didn’t have it easy in his last fight inside the UFC octagon. Though the Irish Dragon ended up losing to the former lightweight champion via a split decision, his bravery leading up to the fight at UFC Vegas 14 was what made him win the hearts of several people who watched that fight.
Felder was 180 pounds when he got the call to replace Makhachev against RDA. Felder went from 180 to 155 in a matter of three days. The fighter had to cut a whopping 25 pounds which is deadly to pull off. Despite the hardships, the UFC veteran was determined to put on a show.
