American combat movie star, Steven Seagal once appeared on the Submission Radio podcast after UFC 229 clash between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. Seagal is a practitioner of Aikido, a form of Judo that also instils striking techniques derived from Karate.
Steven Seagal appeared on the Submission radio to discuss the return of Anderson Silva against Israel Adesanya and Conor McGregor’s devastating submission loss against Khabib. The Under Seige movie star also expressed how he felt about the brawl that took place soon after Khabib’s submission of McGregor via rear naked choke and neck crank.
“I think that Khabib outclassed Conor McGregor in every way. I thought even with his stand-up and his punching, he outpunched Conor. Do I condemn him for what he did after the fight? No! If you bad mouth someone’s family, their wife, their children, their parents, their country, and religion, all bets are off. I would’ve done the same thing,” Seagal told Submission Radio.
Immediately after winning the fight in the main event of UFC 229, Khabib Nurmagomedov jumped off the cage to attack Dillon Danis, a training partner of Conor McGregor and an inactive MMA fighter. In the build-up to the fight, Conor’s teammates had trashed and taken digs at the Russian former champion and his cultural identities.
When Khabib Nurmagomedov discussed his reasons for bitter rivalry with Conor McGregor
Khabib (29-0) retired after defeating Justin Gaethje and successfully defending his lightweight championship in 2020. In an extended interview with Mike Tyson and Henry Cejudo at ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson’, the Dagestani champion revealed his reasons behind starting the post-fight brawl with Conor McGregor’s team.
The rivalry between McGregor and Khabib turned bitter after the former’s teammate, Artem Lobov started sour-mouthing Khabib’s teammates during a meet-up. An angry Khabib went ahead and slapped Artem for disrespectful behavior with his teammates. After informing about the happening to McGregor, the Irishman flew straight from Ireland to New York City and attacked a bus in which Khabib was being escorted out of the arena.
Conor McGregor was seen picking up a hand dolly backstage and tossing it at the bus. Other UFC fighters inside the bus were hurt including laceration injuries inflicted on Michael Chiesa, and eye injuries inflicted upon Ray Borg.
The post-fight brawl at UFC 229 resulted in the cancellation of Khabib’s fight purse as a penalty for initiating a chaotic brawl and the suspension of two of his teammates for illegally attacking a tired and defeated Conor McGregor inside the octagon.
