Cody Garbrandt’s quest for claiming the bantamweight title again took a big hit as he lost to Rob Font via. unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 188. Cody succumbed to Rob Font’s superior reach advantage, as the already number 3 ranked Rob Font, strengthened his position as a strong bantamweight contender.
Elsewhere, Petr Yan who recently lost his bantamweight title due to disqualification against Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259, pointed out on Twitter that Cody had a lot of technical flaws in his game. But the Russian wished that he would bounce back, so that he could beat him one day.
Yan then also called out Font, saying that he would rough him up one day. Yan is currently looking forward to the rematch against Aljamain Sterling.
‘I still want to kick his ass in the future‘ – Petr Yan
Yan tweeted, “I don’t know what else did you expected? Being calm not gonna compensate all of Cody’s technical flaws. I wish him to bounce back though, because I still want to kick his ass in the future. And don’t worry Rob one day I will fuck you up too, I have another business to handle now.”
Yan can become the champion once again if he beats Aljamain Sterling in the rematch. The match is yet to be made official but is inevitable, and is bound to happen sometime this year.
Font, on the other hand, having solidified his position as the number 3 ranked bantamweight, might face the winner of TJ Dillashaw and Cory Sandhagen, which is yet to be made official as well.
As for Garbrandt, he will have to work his way up once again. Just after recovering from a three fight skid, after beating Raphael Assuncao, he has once again faltered. It is back to the drawing board now for ‘No Love’.
