UFC Vegas 33 co-main event between Rani Yahya and Kyung Ho Kang called off

Kyung Ho Kang and Rani Yahya

UFC Vegas 33 co-main event featuring Rani Yahya and Kyung Ho Kang has been called off. Another day another fight called off from the UFC Vegas 33 card. The fights listed have been falling off like a stack of dominoes due to several reasons.

After a couple of fights were pulled out from the main card over the last week, 2 fights were cancelled yesterday after disastrous weigh-ins. Nicco Montano came in 7 pounds heavier, and her name was withdrawn, and bantamweight fighter Ronnie Lawrence was met with the same fate too, after finding it difficult to even step on the scale.

And more recently, the co-main event featuring bantamweight fighters Rani Yahya and Kyung Ho Kang has been called off as well. The reason for the same is Yahya testing positive for COVID-19. He then issued a statement on his Instagram account that he had tested positive for the virus.

Yahya’s statement read, “Hey guys, my fight just got cancelled. I tested positive for the COVID-19 test that was made yesterday. I feel very good physically, and I believe that everything happens for a reason. Thank you all for the support.”

Veteran Rani Yahya has fought in over 35 fights in his career. He has been a part of the UFC since 2011. The Brazilian was coming off a submission (due to arm-triangle choke) win over Ray Rodriguez earlier this year in March. He would be gutted that COVID got the better of him, as age is catching up with him as well.

Kyung Ho Kang has been a part of the UFC for 8 years. The South Korean is currently on a three-fight winning streak with his last win coming over Liu Pingyuan in December 2019. Almost 2 years ago. Now, he will have to wait some more time, before he can return to the Octagon.
