“I do believe he is going to be shooting for the legs” – Stephen Thompson reveals how his fight against Gilbert Burns would pan out

Stephen Thompson and Gilbert Burns
Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson is one of the most accomplished strikers in the history of the UFC. The top-ranked welterweight has a diverse range of striking which proves to be detrimental to the opponent’s quest for a win. Many believe Wonderboy to be the man who might probably dethrone Kamaru Usman.
Now, Stephen Thompson is set to take on Gilbert Burns in the co-main event of UFC 264, which is headlined by the trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Thompson revealed how his opponent Burns would approach the fight.
Wonderboy claimed that Burns would be shooting for the legs, adding that a majority of fighters try to do the same against him. The NMF hence stated that it would be easy for him to prepare for a fight under such conditions.
“It kind of makes it fairly easy for me” – Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson
Stephen Thompson was quoted as saying, “Everybody that I fight, at some point they want to try and make that happen. So, it’s pretty much trying to prepare for every fight the same way. And it kind of makes it fairly easy for me. I do believe he is going to be shooting for the legs.”
Thompson is coming off a victory against Geoff Neal at UFC Fight Night in December 2020. He is on a two-fight win streak currently. His last loss was his only TKO loss in his MMA career, it came against Anthony Pettis in March 2019.
Gilbert Burns, on the other hand, is coming off a loss against Kamaru Usman at UFC 258, when he challenged for the welterweight title. The number 2 ranked welterweight contender will be looking forward to getting back on winning track, when he takes on Thompson.
