“That’s a big jump”- Dan Hooker skeptical about Kamaru Usman’s move to 205-lbs

Dan Hooker like many others is skeptical about Kamaru Usman wanting to move into the 205-pound light heavyweight division and believes it’s a step too big for the current welterweight champion.

In a recent interview with GQ, Usman mentioned his thoughts of wanting to achieve double champ status by climbing up to the light heavyweight division which means that he would skip the entire 185-pound division. The reason he probably does not want to fight at middleweight is that his close friend and fellow African Israel Adesanya is the current champion.

Hooker while speaking to David Lynch of LowKick MMA, was asked about his opinion of Kamaru Usman’s sudden epiphany to which he replied, “That’s a massive jump. Like I bumped into a few of those light heavyweights like [Alexander] Gustafsson and Glover [Teixeira]. Like, Glover is thick. Glover is built like a fire hydrant and Gustafsson is just huge and long and yeah, that’s a big jump. Oh, I’ll believe that one when I see it.”

Usman deciding to test the waters at the 205-pound division may not be his best idea as the 170-pound man has seen and knows what happened to Adesanya when he wanted to achieve his dream of double champ status only to be beaten by Jan Blachowicz who used his size to take the points and the title home.

Dan Hooker isn’t the only one who thinks Kamaru Usman’s idea of moving up isn’t a good plan as Jiri Prochazka speaks up

Dan Hooker isn’t the only one who doesn’t expect ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ to survive at the light heavyweight division as No. 2 ranked Jiri Prochazka speaks up about the news in an interview with AllStar.

I think he will not be so quick in our division and the power too will not be on the same level like in our weight. How many kilos he have? He’s two weights under us, under light heavyweight so that will be the challenge for him and a problem. I don’t know what his weight is normally. He will beat Jan, that he said? Adesanya didn’t beat Jan and he thinks he can beat Jan? That’s a big and strong work. He’s a very big name in the fights but this is very strong division.”

With the 205-pound division already packed with some serious power, we don’t believe Usman can actually rise up to the challenge as it’s an almost impossible hurdle to jump across, and currently, no one sees the welterweight champion to cut in at 205-lbs.
