WATCH: Khabib Nurmagomedov was stunned when Daniel Cormier admitted to using the “towel trick” during HOF speech
Daniel Cormier reveals his towel trick in Khabib's Hall Of Fame induction. (reddit)
Daniel Cormier admitted to his famous “towel trick” in the UFC Hall Of Fame induction last year. Khabib Nurmagomedov was shocked to see his friend accept this rumor. He very blatantly agreed that he was indeed cheating when making weight for a fight.
Daniel Cormier and Khabib Nurmagomedov, both got inducted into the Hall Of Fame on the same night. He admitted on stage that he used to cheat his way into making weight for his fights, by using the “towel trick”. He even went on to explain the trick. Daniel said, “Do you know the old wrestling trick..just stand behind me and … [indicating with his hands to lift him]…I made the weight.”
Khabib reacted to it even before Daniel explained the trick when he mentioned “the old wrestling technique”. Khabib started laughing immediately as soon as he heard that phrase. For someone with a career as decorated as Cormier’s, he seemed to like doing this again and again whenever he missed weight by a few pounds.
No one accused him of cheating or anything of that sort, rather enjoyed the moment. One even reacted by saying, “Always made a big thing about Jon Jones “cheating” but yet he’s admitted he is a cheater “. The whole MMA community just reacted to it by saying it was a “legendary moment”.
Did Khabib Nurmagomedov ever miss weight for his fights?
“The Eagle” Khabib Nurmagomedov did indeed miss weight, five times. Khabib had multiple problems during his weigh-ins, due to not making weight and having to undergo dangerous weight cuts at the last moment.
Khabib has missed weight a total of five times. One was famously against Tony Ferguson at UFC 209 when he had a failed weight which led him to get hospitalized, and the fight didn’t happen. He even missed weight in his title fight against Justin Gaethje but just made it time and remained the undisputed lightweight champion.
It’s fair to say even the greatest fighter in the lightweight division had a tough time making the weight. But unlike Daniel Cormier, he used to take drastic measures to make weight, which resulted in him looking bad physically. Despite this, he managed to remain undefeated in his career.
