Brittney Griner finally comes back to her homeland as Russia freed her in a dramatic high-level prisoner swap. Having to sacrifice notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, Joe Biden finally confirmed that the WNBA star is on her way back home.
However, Brittney Griner’s rescue has left behind an American jailed for nearly four years in Russia. For those who are unaware – the arrest of the 8xWNBA All Star in February made her the most high-profile American jailed abroad. In further updates, POTUS informed the media and sports fans all around the country that Griner would be on US soil ‘within 24 hours.’
With tension between US and Russia being at an all-time high, this prisoner swap took place in the United Arab Emirates. However, as fans were excited for Brittney Griner to come back home, there were some who were in utter disbelief upon Joe Biden’s administration leaving behind a Marine – Paul Whelan.

Amid making the media aware that Griner is in ‘good spirits’ whilst she took a plane back home. He emphasized, as per CNN, “These past few months have been hell for Brittney. I’m glad to be able to say Brittney is in good spirits.
“She’s relieved to finally be heading home, and the fact remains that she’s lost months of her life, experienced a needless trauma. She deserves space, privacy and time with her loved ones to recover and heal from her time being wrongfully detained.”
