Cody Rhodes‘ run as one-half of the Undisputed Tag Team Champions was almost cut short this week on Monday Night Raw. As it happened, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn had a massive opportunity on the trot as they took on Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso for the titles in the main event. After a near-perfect in-ring exhibition from both teams, the closing sequence of the match paused everyone for a second.

While delivering their newly picked finisher to Kevin Owens, the 1-D into Cody Cutter, The American Nightmare got a bit too excited and landed abruptly. He got an exorbitant purchase off the middle rope, and Owens’ heavy frame added to the scare. Though Rhodes ended up landing on the back of his neck. Eventually, that was enough for Rhodes and Jey to retain the gold.

Despite such a grueling outing this week, the Tag Team Champions won’t have much to cherish as they prepare for yet another title defense next Monday. That said, Finn Balor and Damian Priest are coming for redemption, as Rhea Ripley convinced the management to get her boys the rematch. Watch Cody Rhodes’ scary botch that happened this week on Raw.

Meanwhile, the fans would be hoping for Cody Rhodes to move beyond The Judgment Day. He’s been around the same stuff on a weekly basis. Thus far, the pairing of Jey and Cody has been fun to watch. Once bitter enemies, they’ve grown into friends, and it’s refreshing to see an unprecedented turnaround in their relationship.

Cody Rhodes left speechless on Raw this week

After Rhodes captured the gold with Main Event Jey Uso at Fastlane, everyone joked about Cody finishing the story. Taking that into consideration, Michael Cole threw some daggers at The Prodigal Son on Raw. The legendary commentator firmly questioned Cody’s approach to finishing his story. Cole even inquired whether being the Undisputed Tag Team Champion deters him from his original goal of returning to WWE, that’s to win the World Title.

For a change, Cody Rhodes wasn’t able to come up with an immediate answer. The Voice of WWE stirred the pot when he said, “Is Cody going to repeat the same fate as his father, Dusty Rhodes?” The latter came ever-so-close to winning the WWE Championship in his career but couldn’t taste it. Similarly, The American Nightmare almost dethroned Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39.

Before Cody Rhodes could add much in response, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens interrupted the segment, which further led to their match in the main event. However, if one looks at it carefully, Michael Cole did give Cody Rhodes a hard time on Raw.
