One just cannot deny the invigorating wrestling legacy of the icon, Goldberg. He’s popularly known as one of the Torchbearers of WCW, where the had the legendary undefeated streak of 173-0. The Icon was laying mayhem back then and for what it’s worth, the turbulent gimmick established himself as one of the all-time greats.

After beating Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania XX, Goldberg left WWE. After 12 years of absence, he finally returned to finish what he began, twenty years ago. ‘The Beast’ Brock Lesnar called out Bill Goldberg and the two decided to have a match at Survivor Series 2016. At the event, Goldberg shocked the world after decimating Lesnar in just 90 seconds. Everyone watching was left numb and in a disbelief.

Since then, Goldberg competed in various matches for the next five years. One of the worst moments that actually was the turning point of his return journey came in 2020. As the challenger, he lamingly defeated the fan-favorite in the form of ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt. This booking decision was heavily criticized among the WWE Universe and undoubtedly left a black spot on the legacies of both superstars.

But, do you think that WWE offered this part-time return deal to Goldberg at once? Well, not at all. WWE HOF’er and current AEW Commentator Jim Ross recently disclosed the contract negotiations of Goldberg. While speaking on his podcast Grilling JR, the wrestling legend had following things to say,

Vince was reluctant to break from the mold, shall we say. I had a good argument as regarding the dates because I was working with Barry Bloom the agent……You didn’t want to bring him in because everybody knows that if he comes in he’s going to be making big money. More than likely much more than they. I think it was a good argument. I thought I’d argue that we could win it just it just made sense. I’m not so sure he got what he wanted and I’m not so sure that we got what we wanted but I think in the business world that’s called compromise.”

Earlier this year at Elimination Chamber, Goldberg faced Roman Reigns for the Universal Title. This match was initially supposed to happen at Wrestlemania 36 in 2020. However, the unprecedented times forced Reigns to back out of the match, leaving the contest in jeopardy. Ultimately, he was replaced by Braun Strowman, later on.

The rage to make this match happen inside Vince McMahon was palpable. He decided to revisit this rivalry this year and he finally succeeded. The match was billed as “Spear vs. Spear” and the build was quite average to be honest. At Elimination Chamber, The Tribal Chief displayed a flawless act to get better of the WWE legend.

With this match, Goldberg’s WWE contract ended and he disappeared from the television. Everybody thought that this was the end of Bill Goldberg. So being said, things have took an interesting turn as of late. In one of his recent interviews, the ECW legend has made it clear that he’s not done yet.

Seemingly, he’s eyeing for another shot at Roman Reigns. Well, as of now, Bill has not signed any new deal with WWE. But, if he do ends up re-signing with WWE, things should be a bit different this time around. In his second run with the promotion, Goldberg was accused to bury multiple younger talents like Dolph Ziggler and Bray Wyatt. With Triple H in command, we can expect things to play out differently.
