The Viper, Randy Orton hasn’t been seen in WWE for months due to the back injury he suffered almost a year ago. However, as the WrestleMania season heats up, there are some signs of his return on the horizon.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider has recently reported that certain discussions are happening backstage related to the Apex Predator. Johnson writes, “There’s been some rumblings about Randy Orton internally within the last week or so, where there hadn’t been any discussion about him internally in some time.” At the time, the nature and content of these “rumblings” are not clarified and there is no timeline specified for his return either.
Nevertheless, these internal discussions after no mention of the Orton for months surely fill fans with hope. The former Raw Tag Team Champion last had a match on SmackDown in May. Orton teamed up with his RK-Bro partner Matt Riddle to take on the Usos in a Tag Title unification match. The Viper had to take some time off due to his back injury which turned out to be worse than expected. The WWE superstar underwent back fusion surgery last November for the same.
While his tag team partner was out, Matt Riddle continued his singles run on Raw. However, it was cut short when the former United States Champion was sent to rehab last December. While he completed his rehab earlier this year, there are no signs of his WWE return in sight. Last year, it was reported that Matt Riddle and Randy Orton might break up following the title loss. The two were reportedly scheduled to have a match this year at WrestleMania.

Will Randy Orton return at WrestleMania?

This recent report suggests that WWE is at least considering something related to Randy Orton in the future. Moreover, these discussions happening around their biggest event of the year can’t be a coincidence. The WrestleMania season is usually full of returns, surprises, and debuts. Hence, if the Viper is indeed fit for a return in the ring, there won’t be a more opportune time than in Hollywood if the company can plan something out for him to do.
The 14-time World Champion has only missed one WrestleMania in the last 19 years. This was in 2016 when he suffered a shoulder injury and missed out on the Show of Shows in Dallas, Texas. However, if Triple H and co can’t find anything for him to do, the Raw after WrestleMania also seems a big enough event for a homecoming of the Apex Predator. If Matt Riddle is also cleared for a return, the two can even pick up their story where they left off last year around the same time.
