One could only imagine how Tony Khan must have felt after losing CM Punk to WWE. Back in August 2021, when The Best in the World made his return to pro wrestling after 7 years, everyone was excited to see it unfold. However, luck didn’t show enough mercy on Punk, as first, he suffered an injury and later a suspension due to his contentious remarks at the All Out media scrum.

Finally, in September of this year, AEW terminated Punk’s contract. And last Saturday at Survivor Series, CM Punk returned to WWE. Though the entire wrestling community was in awe, everyone was anxiously waiting for Tony Khan to issue some comments. Speaking to the New York Post, the AEW CEO was asked to say a word or a few about Punk’s instrumental contributions to his company.

The First Dance was an incredible moment in wrestling. All Out 2021, along with All In, are our biggest pay-per-views of all time and we've had a lot of great success as a company as a team and in some of the most exciting times, CM Punk has been a big part of that team.

Khan did not hold back while adjudging Punk’s swashbuckling return in 2021 as one of the most incredible moments ever. Tony also lauded The Second City Savior for helping AEW amass their highest-grossing events, like All Out in 2021 or All In at Wembley Stadium. Last but not least, Tony Khan credited The Straight Edge Superstar for being a part of the AEW family that was firing on all cylinders.

He’s also the leading merchandise seller on WWE Shop, overtaking names like Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, and LA Knight. Apart from this, the fans have been eagerly waiting to see Punk’s WWE run get underway.

The creative is already pitching several ideas, including a first-time-ever showdown between CM Punk and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin. According to Fightful Select, the idea has been broached, and there are people within the company who are optimistic that the match could happen. Punk has even had discussions but the results of it are unknown.
