On paper, Triple H is leading the creative reins of WWE. However, almost everything goes through a scanner named Vince McMahon, often leading to several changes. Likewise, some promising plans involving Johnny Gargano effectively got Vince’d. As known, The Way, the former key highlight on NXT, reassembled on Monday Night Raw back in May this year.
The faction, which includes Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae, Dexter Lumis, and Indi Hartwell, met backstage. They were interrupted by Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville. However, after a brief interaction, attention turned towards Gargano. He exclaimed that “he’s coming back soon”, believed to be referring to Tommaso Ciampa. Fans had high hopes for the eventual DIY reunion. Also, everyone was excited for The Way’s main-roster journey.
However, it just never came to fruition. Triple H apparently had significant plans for the babyface faction. For some reason, Vince McMahon never saw the vision and canceled everything The Game had for them. The revelation was made by Sean Ross Sapp during his latest QnA session on Fightful Select. However, he did mention that McMahon’s recent surgery could help curb his creative influence, at least for now.
For the uninitiated, The Way enjoyed immense success back in NXT. At the time, Austin Theory was a part of it too. A large portion of the main-roster audience might not have been aware of them. However, their chance to shine on the bigger stage got snatched by the WWE Executive President. It’s unknown at this point if The Way will ever become a thing on Raw or SmackDown.

Vince McMahon recently underwent Spinal surgery
As initially reported by TMZ, the 77-year-old had an intensive spinal procedure last week. The surgery took 5 hours and was successful. McMahon had been planning to get it done for a long time. Sources close to the situation described it as a ‘career-altering surgery’. Currently, Vince McMahon is at home, away from official work, as advised by the doctors.
That significantly drives Mr. McMahon away from WWE’s creative think tank for a while. Call it anything, but McMahon’s total absence this close to SummerSlam is nothing but a blessing in disguise for the company. His inactive status could mean the fluent execution of Triple H’s vision for The Biggest Party of the Summer. Had McMahon been healthy, he’d have surely made plans to travel to Detroit for the annual extravaganza.
McMahon’s surgery was a major one. And hence, fans could expect him to stay at home for the upcoming weeks. As long as WWE creative can avoid his fingerprints on the product, there won’t be any more rewrites. As reported, Vince McMahon’s uncalled script changes have upset several talents backstage. For now, everyone can take a sigh of relief and hope McMahon’s influence stays dormant.
