Former NXT North American Champion Wes Lee has had an impressive run on NXT. Fans have been invested in him for a long time and adore his high-flying abilities. But Lee would be off WWE programming for the foreseeable year and miss on a chance to regain the North American Title against “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio this Saturday at NXT Deadline.

Wes has suffered a legitimate injury and would be in need of back surgery. The 29-year-old wrote a heartfelt message on X with a picture of him delivering the news on NXT and even thanked everyone who offered him well wishes. He claimed to feel warmth for the love he had received. Lee even felt hurt while delivering this message, but he promised to deliver on his return sooner. Lee agreed to represent the WesSide proudly upon his return.

The high-flyer was to battle Mysterio for his NXT North American Championship at NXT Deadline. He earned the title shot by winning the Fatal 4-Way match on the November 28, 2023, episode of NXT. It was somewhere in that match or later that Lee suffered the injury and had his back damaged.

Lee has had a historic reign as the NXT North American Championship for 269 days. He won the vacant gold in a five-man ladder match in late 2022. Another title he gained on NXT was alongside Nash Carter with two reigns as the NXT Tag Team Championship. A year without Wes would be excruciating for his hard-core fans.

Dragon Lee has replaced Wes Lee against Dominik Mysterio

On the December 5, 2023, episode of NXT, Wes Lee announced his injury and stated that he would be out for a year. His back surgery and plenty of rest would keep him away from wrestling. This also took him away from the NXT North American Championship match, only to have Dragon Lee replace him.

Dominik was convinced by the fact of chilling this Saturday and having no title defense. That’s when Rey Mysterio appeared on the TitanTron to announce Dragon’s participation on NXT Deadline. Lee, who also appears on SmackDown nowadays, will seemingly join forces with LWO in the coming future.

Dragon was a replacement for Carlito at Survivor Series: WarGames 2023. The high-flyer took on Santos Escobar who had turned heel and broke away from LWO. There are fewer chances for Lee to win the NXT North American title as Mysterio’s momentum cannot be broken until his very low moment.
