WWE Superstars with the most Hell in a Cell appearances
Orton and Reigns are among the Superstars with the highest HIAC appearances.
Hell in a Cell is less than a week away and the WWE Universe is gearing up for one of the most brutal PPV’s of the year. Two of the matches on the card are scheduled to take place inside the barbaric structure. One of these will be featuring Universal Champion Roman Reigns, who has enough experience of battling inside the structure.
Reigns will be facing Samckdown Tag Team Champion Rey Mysterio. The other match inside the cage will be featuring two wrestlers who aren’t quite familiar with the structure. WWE Champion Bobby Lashley will be making his Hell in a Cell debut, while challenger Drew McIntyre is coming off a loss from his only match inside the Hell in a Cell.
In this list we look at the WWE Superstars with the most Hell in a Cell appearances:
#5 Roman Reigns, John Cena, Mick Foley and Shawn Michaels: 4 appearances
If there is one name that is synonymous with Hell in a Cell, it is Mick Foley. He participated in the most infamous HIAC match against The Undertaker at King of the Ring 1998.
Shawn Michaels competed in the first ever Hell in a Cell match, where he defeated The Undertaker. John Cena has also appeared on 4 such stipulation matches – facing Randy Orton in two of them.
Current Universal Champion Roman Reigns is gearing up for his fifth appearance inside the satanic structure. His latest appearance was at the 2020 PPV, where he delivered, arguably, the best match of the year against his cousin Jey Uso.
#4 CM Punk: 5 appearances
The former WWE Superstar, CM Punk, has made 5 appearances inside the Hell in a Cell structure, with the first one coming in 2009, at the inaugural Hell in a Cell event. He was defeated by The Undertaker in the opening match of the night.
His next appearance came on a WWE Raw episode where John Cena successfully defended his WWE Championship against Punk, Alberto Del Rio, Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger. This was followed up with an appearance on Hell in a Cell 2011, where Del Rio defeated Cena and Punk to capture the WWE title.
For two years in a row, Punk faced Ryback inside the structure, and emerged victorious on both the occasions. Out of his five appearances Punk emerged victorious in his last two matches inside the Cell.
#3 Randy Orton: 8 appearances
14-time WWE World Champion Randy Orton has appeared 8 times inside the Hell in a Cell, and has earned victories in 5 of them. The sweetest of these will undoubtedly be the one last year, where he defeated Drew McIntyre to become a 14-time Champion.
His first appearance was against The Undertaker in 2005, which also marked the conclusion of his long feud against The Deadman. He faced John Cena a couple of times and even appeared inside the Cell for three consecutive years.
Orton has wins over Cena, McIntyre, Jeff Hardy, Sheamus and Daniel Bryan, but suffered losses against Mark Henry and Cena, inside the steel structure.
#2 Triple H: 9 appearances
Triple H is considered to be one of the legends of the Hell in a Cell matches. He has defended the title inside the structure on numerous occasions. The Game’s first appearance came at No Way Out in 2000, where he defeated Mick Foley.
His next appearance was in the same year, when Kurt Angle defeated Triple H, Undertaker, Stone Cold, Rikishi and The Rock. But Triple H soon built a HIAC streak as he defeated Jericho, Kevin Nash and Shawn Michaels.
But the streak was snapped by Batista in 2005. His next two appearances were Tag Team matches, where he teamed up with Shawn Michaels. The DX members emerged victorious on both the occasions. His final appearance inside the structure was at Wrestlemania XXVIII, where he was defeated by The Undertaker.
#1 The Undertaker: 14 appearances
Just simple glance over the above list will help you notice that The Undertaker has been an opponent to everyone on this list, inside the Hell in a Cell. Predictably, he holds the record for highest number of appearances inside the Cell.
Taker has faced legends inside the structure – Mick Foley, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, Batista, Edge, CM Punk, Kane, and many more. His last HIAC appearance was at Wrestlemania 32, where he defeated Shane McMahon.
