Universal Champion Roman Reigns breaks a massive record

Universal Champion Roman Reigns breaks a massive record

Universal Champion

Roman Reigns is, inarguably, the biggest professional wrestler not only in WWE, but in the entire industry today. Since he turned Heel at WWE Summerslam 2020, Reigns has been performing at a completely different level. While he had often received mixed reception from the crowd, the Heel Reigns has been welcomed with open arms by the entire WWE Universe.

Since he returned to WWE, he went after The Fiend and Braun Strowman – who were then feuding for the Universal Championship. He faced them in a Triple Threat match and pinned Strowman to become the Universal Champion. Since then, the Tribal Chief has delivered some inconic feuds against the likes of John Cena, Edge, Daniel Bryan and Finn Balor among others.

The consistent dominance has led Roman Reigns to break a massive WWE record. The Head of the Table has completed 500 days as the reigning Universal Champion. With this milestone, Reigns is now just within touching distance of breaking a historic record for WWE. At 500 days, the reign is currently in the second position in the history of the title.

At 503 days, the “Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar has the longest reign as the Universal Champion. He had set this record way back in 2017-18. But with no Championship matches scheduled in the coming days, Reigns is well on his way to break Lesnar’s record. In terms of combined days – Lesnar is still way ahead of Reigns.

Brock Lesnar, over three reigns as the Champion, has held the title for a total of 686 days. But on the other hand, Roman Reigns, who comes in at second, has held the title for a total of 560 days. Reigns has set this record over just two Reigns, and considering his current dominance, he might well go on to break that record that as well!

The Universal Champion was involved in an active feud with the Brock Lesnar. They were rumored to face in the main event of Wrestlemania 38. But the plans changed significantly, after Reigns tested positive for Covid and Lesnar went on to win the WWE Championship.

There isn’t much clarity on what the company has in mind regarding these two Superstars. But in the meanwhile, Roman Reigns will be facing Seth Rollins at Royal Rumble. On the other hand, Brock Lesnar will be putting the WWE Championship line against Bobby Lashley.
