During Conor McGregor and Eddi Alvarez’s press conference, many iconic moments came from it. But it is very rare to see someone shut up Conor. But Eddie managed to do so when the topic was about money.\
When McGregor was gunning for the champ champ status, he had to fight the then UFC Lightweight champion – Eddie Alvarez to win the belt. The famous Red Panty line made its appearance again during their press conference.
Usually, Conor always liked to comment about the fact that the fighters who fought him always made a lot of money. Therefore, he made sure that they were paying their bills thanks to him. This didn’t sit well with Alvarez, he said, “You get your money from single moms…single moms got welfare, not men”.
But in this case, Conor McGregor had the last laugh. He beat Eddie Alvarez and became the double champ for the featherweight and lightweight divisions. Conor’s stock rose, and the fact that his opponents made a lot of money also held when Eddie received his biggest paycheck.
Conor McGregor’s first UFC title
McGregor has always been an ambitious man. Ever since he came to UFC, he had set his sights on the featherweight and lightweight belts of UFC. Since he primarily competed in the featherweight division then, he set his sights on Jose Aldo.
McGregor vs Aldo was and is still considered to this day, the greatest mental breakdown a fighter could deal to his opponent. Aldo who isn’t known for losing his cool lost his cool multiple times. Conor getting a reaction out of him enjoyed this and understood that he was getting to him. And everyone in the community knows how the fight ended.
Conor beat Jose via a first-round knockout, one of the fastest in UFC’s history. After he beat Aldo, he set his sights on becoming the double champ without even defending his belt once. But won that as well. It could be said that that period in his career was the most successful one winning two belts and then going on to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a boxing match.
