Jake Paul is being sued for defamation after he made allegations against Matchroom Boxing, run by long-time promoter Eddie Hearn. He alleged that Hearn bribed referee Glenn Feldman for a positive verdict in the Amanda SerranoKatie Taylor main event. ‘Problem Child’ made similarly problematic claims about the heavyweight showdown pitting Anthony Joshua against Oleksandr Usyk.

Unsurprisingly, Hearn and co. requested that “El Gallo” retracts the “slanderous lies.” This request went on blank ears, prompting Matchroom to sue the social media star for more than $100 million. However, Jake Paul now finds himself in deep water and lighter pockets. Judge Paul Gardephe from the U.S. District Court ruled against Paul’s motion to dismiss.

As a result of this ruling, there’s a date for a pre-trial conference on the 16th of October as the case moves forward. Lawyers for Matchroom Boxing and Paul must attend the conference. However, Matchroom founder Eddie Hearn and Paul himself will not be present, presumably. The 27-year-old Paul already finds the discourse weird, labeling it a “stupid” lawsuit. He also has one Mike Tyson to look forward to.

Jake Paul is currently in camp for his November 15, 2024 spectacle against ‘Iron’ at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Netflix-streamed card will also feature a rematch between rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

The iconic seven-division champ is off a fresh domination over Stevie Morgan (14-2, 13 KOs) at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, where she called for the rematch again. While Glenn Feldman won’t be there to meddle, Paul’s misery has gone quite viral.

Fight fans react to the matter of the motion to dismiss

The original action was brought after Paul alleged that Matchroom Boxing had “bribed” Glenn Feldman- a boxing judge- “to influence the outcome” of two boxing fights that he had judged. The motion to dismiss was based on several factors, including Paul’s argument that the New York venue was improper. It is mainly because he is currently a resident of Puerto Rico and this court does not “have personal jurisdiction over him.”

There was much to-and-fro even in the build-up to the fight. Eddie Hearn and the influencer boxer have maintained a generic rift over the years. However, other than the hearsay, there hasn’t been any substantial wrongdoing so far. Given the wayward trajectory this has gone to, the Southern District of New York issued a ruling against Paul’s motion. Here are some top reactions to it:

Some fans have jibed down Jake Paul on it, saying Hearn could finally end his crossover boxing “Reign of Terror”. This is even more prominent in the face of him facing a 31-year-old senior Mike Tyson. It is something even Hearn himself has spoken out against.

Some have contrastingly favored Paul in the fallout. Others have even billed that boxing nowadays is riddled with lawsuits and defamation claims flying about. All in all, the age-old topic will remain red hot for a while still.
