AJ Styles sounded off on recent WWE cuts during his The Phenomenally Retro podcast. The company released over 20 of its talent, with several main roster names like the Wyatt Sicks, Kairi Sane, Aleister Black, and Zelina Vega being let go among various other NXT and Evolve stars.
Weighing in, Styles said it must’ve been a case of space, time, and money. The former WWE Champion added that it’s nothing like how it used to be. Styles is obviously talking about how things were under the previous regime of Vince McMahon, whom AJ dragged for releasing wrestlers in his time too.

“I’m sure it has to come down to space and time and money. It’s not anything like it used to be. Although I know that Vince [McMahon] used to do this, too.
I don’t know. I have no idea. And I don’t think I want to know. I don’t think I want… pic.twitter.com/OwRrBPLin8
The retired wrestling icon further said that he doesn’t even want to know the actual reason behind every superstar that was let go. He gave a special shout-out to the Motor City Machine Guns. The iconic tag team was unfortunately axed after succumbing to haphazard booking for the most part of their 20-month stay in WWE.
While Styles didn’t dig deep into what could’ve driven the latest talent cuts in WWE, he bestowed some valuable wisdom on those who had their jobs taken away from them. ‘Mr. TNA’ advised the released stars to not stress over not getting to finish what they would’ve wished to do when signing with WWE.
AJ Styles advises talent released from WWE not to let it destroy them, look forward to what the next steps may be:

“My biggest fear in my own career was that I wouldn’t get to finish. It’s kind of one of those things where they didn’t get to finish what they signed to do, and I… pic.twitter.com/UKyrDpeAcQ
Styles hailed those men and women for even making it to the biggest wrestling company on the planet. And just because they’re no longer employed there doesn’t mean it’s over for them. At last, the ‘Georgia Pitbull’ asked them to keep their heads up and see where the journey takes each and every one of them.
He reminded the axed wrestlers that a lot good can happen from leaving something that they were just spinning their wheels at. Now speaking about his current role in WWE, he’s actively working to inject some fresh blood in the company. Back in March, the WWE Hall of Famer talked about his current role in the company at length.
Not only am I the FASTEST MAN ALIVE, but now AJ Styles is my personal 1 on 1 coach at the PC!

It involves him scouting talent on social media and facilitating any budding wrestler out there to be enrolled under the WWE ID program if he sees something in them. Moreover, he’s also overseeing what goes inside the Performance Center. Recently, NXT’s Lexis King announced on social media that AJ Styles would coach him personally at the PC. The former AEW star also attached his selfie with Styles.
AJ Styles was caught off guard by Kairi Sane’s WWE ouster
AJ Styles did get particular about the WWE releases by discussing the case of Kairi Sane. In an excerpt from his comments in the aforementioned podcast, ‘The Phenomenal One’ mentioned how everyone is baffled about Sane being taken off a major storyline and also having to end her alliance with Asuka.

Styles said it caught him off guard as well. He thought they were great as a tag team, specifically praising ‘The Pirate Princess’ for doing her best work of late. Styles lamented having no answers as to why she was let go. He also pondered upon Sane’s future in wrestling by briefly noting going back to Stardom in Japan as an option.
AJ Styles says he was caught off guard by Kairi Sane’s WWE release:

“I think everybody’s a little confused. Asuka and her as a tag team, and then it just kind of… we don’t know exactly what the case is. That one caught me off guard as well because it was a great tag team thing.… pic.twitter.com/UtsPNRQH6b
The former Bullet Club leader affirmed that she was widely loved by her peers, and he hated that she got released. The fans were scratching their heads online over WWE firing Sane in the midst of her central role in the storyline between Asuka and Iyo Sky. The two will have a match at Backlash this weekend. It would be interesting to see if the fans hijack the match with “We Want Kairi” chants or not.
