Usually, public trials tend to go on for a bit, particularly when evidence is presented on both sides of the argument. In the case of Stefon Diggs, his trial for allegedly choking and assaulting his personal chef did not last that long.

The case was brought forward by Jamila ‘Mila’ Adams. She alleged that the former New England Patriots wide receiver did not pay her dues and instead sent her home.

When she tried to get her money out of him, she alleged that the 32-year-old choked and assaulted her. It can be said that this incident placed a big block of steel over Diggs’ head.

NFL teams do not appreciate baggage, especially when the said athlete’s performances do not outweigh it. In Stefon Diggs’ case, this assault trial, along with his earlier actions over a bag with a pink substance, drew unwanted attention to the Patriots.

It could have been that those instances, and the cheating allegations levied by Cardi B, weighed over his performance, leading the franchise to release him.

That explains why the Maryland native was emotional after the jury found him not guilty of all charges levied against him. It was as if he was vindicated for something he hadn’t done, and that he could now go back to NFL teams for a job.

The problem with this reaction is that football fans have witnessed Stefon Diggs engage in questionable behavior almost throughout his career.

From assault allegations on another individual to the countless women he has engaged with, or the recent split with Cardi B, fans feel that this is an athlete who is more concerned about his life outside of football.

He insisted that he get his day in court, so that his truth be heard… People have to stop targeting professional athletes and trying to extract money… This has impacted him personally and professionally… Any team that signs him will be lucky to have him.

Stefon Diggs’ lawyer told reporters

This was the four-time Pro Bowler‘s lawyer letting it be known that Diggs was targeted, just as many other professional athletes are nowadays. He hoped that NFL teams could look past this and sign him to a contract for the next season and beyond.
