Sean McVay’s Grin After Myles Garrett Trade a Stark Contrast to Ty Simpson Draft

The Los Angeles Rams have arguably the best offensive and defensive players in the league after landing Myles Garrett.

Now that Myles Garrett is a Los Angeles Ram, the franchise is firmly considered Super Bowl contenders. Head coach Sean McVay can rest assured that the reigning Defensive Player of the Year will keep that side of the ball in check.

His leadership was instrumental to the Cleveland Browns’ defensive unit’s success over the past few years. With the pass rusher leading the charge, the head coach can be assured that his motivation alone will uplift the rest of the squad.

They did bring in standout defensive back Trent McDuffie. Collectively, the two superstars will be enough to allow this team to take the fight to the defending champion Seattle Seahawks or any other contender who might want a shot at the fight.

This hope should not just excite football fans based out in Los Angeles, but McVay should also have a grin to sport. He did, as was evident from this exchange during Myles Garrett‘s introductory press conference.

A conversation and a couple bucks?

McVay said to Garrett

This was when the sack artist started to talk about how he managed to get the No. 95 from fellow defensive lineman Poona Ford. To this, Garrett replied:

Maybe more than a couple.

When the offensive wizard first said that to his newest player, he was already smiling. By the time Garrett responded, Sean McVay broke out laughing.

This was a stark contrast to when the 40-year-old faced reporters after they drafted Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick. Even though he did clarify his ‘gloomy’ demeanor, many believe the head coach was not happy with that decision.

I’m looking forward to helping bring a championship here to LA.

This was the 30-year-old stating his intention after giving glowing remarks about the Rams organization, the coaching staff, and his new teammates.

With the biggest game of the upcoming season at SoFi Stadium, the Rams have made it clear that they want to go for it all. Winning in front of their home fans will be the biggest achievement they can dream of.

Since Garrett has never felt what it was like to be on that side, expect his years of motivation to come to full effect this upcoming season. He may not top his single-season sack record, but a Super Bowl ring will make his journey from Cleveland to the West Coast worthwhile.

Playing alongside reigning MVP helped Myles Garrett decide to join Rams

Garrett demanded a trade last season, but chose to stay with the Browns after they gave him a monster extension. He then experienced some good moments with his former team when Shedeur Sanders gave him a reason to be optimistic.

But there is a difference when he knew about the trade that was going to send him to the team that has the reigning league MVP helming the offense. When reporters asked the defensive lineman about the chance to play alongside someone who can score a ton of points, he said:

That did play into the decision as well.

Myles Garrett replied

His answer was simple, but confirmed why he agreed to this move. Having the best quarterback in the league means the pressure is evenly distributed.

Up until last season, the onus was on Garrett and his unit to keep the Browns in the game. He might have to do the same in LA. But with the pressure off his shoulders, he can go to work and ensure Matthew Stafford has an easier game to manage.
