Next week, the 126th U.S. Open will be played at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York. Ahead of this event, golf insider Brandel Chamblee dropped a huge claim regarding Scottie Scheffler, who is eyeing history in this event.

Scheffler, the World No.1, will get his first chance of completing the career grand slam. Last year, he won the PGA Championship in May and claimed his 4th major title by winning the Open Championship in July.

Before these two major triumphs in 2025, he had won the Masters Tournament twice. Following his triumph in July, he completed three legs of the career grand slam and needs to win the U.S. Open to become just the 7th golfer to win all 4 majors.

So one of the main stories of the upcoming tournament will be regarding Scheffler’s chances of achieving the grand slam. Veteran insider Brandel Chamblee, though, is not super optimistic about this happening next week.

The Golf Channel analyst believes Scheffler’s game is “off” at the moment. He also claimed that he is no longer the man that cannot be beaten.

His (Scottie Scheffler) game is off and so he’s provided opportunity to the best players in the world. He’s still the man to beat, but he is no longer the man that can’t be beat.

Brandel Chamblee said regarding Scottie Scheffer as per Adam Schupak

These words from Chamblee come almost a month after he claimed that Rory McIlroy cannot beat him if he (Scheffler) plays at his best. The American international has struggled a bit recently.

While he has 1 victory, 7 top-10 finishes, and has made the cut in all 12 events he has played, he has not played at his high standards. At the PGA Championship, the golfer spoke about the difficulties with the course and the “absurd” pin location.

In the third round of the PGA Championship, he stumbled in the rankings as his putter went cold. He missed several putts and finished the day with a 1-over score. Eventually, he had to settle for a T14 finish.

Earlier this season, Scheffler made some slow starts in 3 successive tournaments. With high scores in the 1st round, it seemed he would miss the cut. However, he kept coming back and finished T3 at the WM Phoenix Open, T4 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and T12 at the Genesis Invitational.

Scottie Scheffler was not happy with his performance at the Memorial Tournament

Last Thursday, Scottie Scheffler entered the Muirfield Village hoping to three-peat the Memorial Tournament. His bid for this fell short in the opening two rounds as he struggled with his game. He was not pleased with the way things went.

In the first round on Thursday, the golfer lost his cool after his shot on the 16th hole landed in the water. He unloaded on his caddie, Ted Scott, and gave him an earful.

In Round 2, Scheffler found himself fighting to make the cut. Following 7 straight pars, he closed out the front nine with successive bogeys on the 8th and 9th holes.

A bogey on the 10th hole saw him go 3-over par. He did manage to come back from this with 3 birdies on the 13th, 15th, and 16th holes. This saw him make the cut with an even par score in Round 2.

In the press conference, the 29-year-old expressed that this was probably the “worst” he had played in years.

I felt like I was going to shoot about 90 today. … That’s maybe some of the worst I’ve hit it in a couple years out there.

Scottie Scheffler told the reporters on Friday

Scheffler is not in the playing field this week at the RBC Canadian Open. The 4-time major champion is taking a break and will not tee at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley before the U.S. Open.

A win next week will see him join Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Rory McIlroy as players to win all 4 majors. McIlroy etched his name in his exclusive list last year by winning the Masters Tournament at Augusta National.
