On Wednesday, Brandel Chamblee once again made a bold statement. In a media call for the upcoming U.S. Open, the golf insider claimed that Bryson DeChambeau was “trying” to figure out paths for a potential PGA Tour return.

DeChambeau, the 2-time major champion, joined LIV Golf in 2022. He was one of the top names who left the PGA Tour to play in the newly formed league funded by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia.

This season, he is in the final year of his contract. As a result of this, there have been several talks about him running down his contract and potentially coming back to the Tour.

While the golfer has expressed interest in staying and claimed that he is working on a renewal, the current situation regarding LIV could make him change his mind. In April, the league confirmed that they had lost the financial support of the PIF.

The sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia has reportedly invested over $5 billion in the breakaway tour. With the future of the league uncertain at the moment, reports claim that several LIV Golf stars have reached out to the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour over paths for a potential return.

Amidst this, Brandel Chamblee made a huge claim. The veteran insider expressed that he is hearing that DeChambeau is “trying” to find a way to return to the Tour.

The distraction of LIV being in flux, and Bryson (DeChambeau), from what we can all sort of read between the lines is that he’s trying to figure out a way to come back to the PGA Tour, at least that’s what we’re hearing through the grapevine.

Brandel Chamblee said as per David Rumsey

This is obviously not the first time DeChambeau has found his name in headlines regarding an exit from LIV Golf. After the news about the PIF’s withdrawal came out, a report from The New York Times claimed that the 32-year-old spent part of the Masters week speaking with organizers and figuring out his options if he chose to leave LIV.

Meanwhile, Chamblee has been a huge critic of LIV Golf. Several times, he has taken a shot at them. In a scathing attack in April, the former PGA Tour pro said that LIV “tilted” the game of golf to greed and divided the sport.

Bryson DeChambeau had turned down a chance to return to the PGA Tour earlier this season

Brandel Chamblee expressed that Bryson DeChambeau is working to figure out a solution to return to the PGA Tour. The American international had previously turned down the chance to return earlier this season.

In late December last year, LIV Golf suffered a huge blow as Brooks Koepka demanded his release. The former World No.1 left the breakaway tour after spending 4 seasons with them.

A few weeks later, he was reinstated on the PGA Tour through the one-time Returning Member Program. As per this, a golfer who wanted to return to the Tour must have been away for 2 or more years and should have won either The Players Championship or any one of the 4 majors from 2022.

Koepka thus qualified for this due to his PGA Championship win in 2023. Apart from him, the other stars who were eligible to return were Cameron Smith (2022 Players Championship and Open Championship winner), Jon Rahm (2023 Masters Tournament winner), and Bryson DeChambeau (2024 U.S. Open winner).

However, DeChambeau snubbed the chance to come back. The golfer cited his contract with the league and quickly shut down talks about him using this window to come back to the Tour.

Since then, he has won twice on the LIV Golf circuit and has a few top-10 finishes. As for the majors, he has missed the cut in both the Masters Tournament and the PGA Championship so far.

Bryson DeChambeau claims he will give his all to help LIV Golf survive

While Bryson DeChambeau and LIV Golf’s future remains uncertain, they are not going down without a fight. Before the LIV Golf Korea event, the Crushers GC captain claimed that he would give his all to help the league survive.

At the moment, LIV Golf is speaking with several potential investors. They are reportedly also working on a major overhaul.

In a conversation with the reporters, DeChambeau pointed out that he was optimistic about the business plan of the league and that he was giving his all.

I’m very optimistic about the business plan … We’ll see if investors like it or not. I’m giving all I can to make it happen, and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t happen.

Bryson DeChambeau told the reporters before LIV Golf Korea

For now, he will turn his attention towards the upcoming U.S. Open. Last year, he missed the cut in this event while entering the tournament as the defending champion.

This year, he has already missed the cut in two majors. However, he is unbothered by this and believes his game is good. He finished T11 at the LIV Golf Andalucia event in Valderrama this past Sunday.
