“Is he Stupid?” – Leger Douzable Faces Fans’ Heat For Massively Undermining Justin Jefferson

Justin Jefferson ranked as the fifth best football player in Pete Prisco's 2025 list, and in the latest one, he's eighth overall and the second best receiver behind Bengals Ja'Marr Chase.

Justin Jefferson fell three spots, from fifth to eighth, in Pete Prisco’s Top 100 NFL Players list. The veteran CBS Sports analyst explained the reason behind Jefferson’s minor slump.

Prisco pointed fingers at the Minnesota Vikings quarterback play. JJ McCarthy battled injuries and inconsistent form throughout last year, as the Vikings missed out on playoff qualification.

[Justin Jefferson] was hurt by poor quarterback play last year, but he remains the most talented receiver in the game. He had 84 catches and only two touchdowns last season.

Prisco believes Kyler Murray’s addition is a positive development for Jefferson. However, his colleague, Leger Douzable, questioned Jefferson’s high position on the list. From his perspective, Jefferson is no longer a top-three wide receiver in the league.

I think [Justin Jefferson] is too high [on the list].

Douzable explained that Jefferson’s not the only receiver who received from multiple quarterbacks. To back his argument, he referenced Bengals Ja’Marr Chase and Seahawks Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s situation.

In 2024, Chase secured the triple crown. His numbers dropped the following year while playing with backup signal callers Jake Browning and Joe Flacco. However, Chase still caught 125 passes for 1412 yards and scored 8 touchdowns, earning his second All-Pro honor.

Smith-Njigba, meanwhile, received passes from Geno Smith during his second year in the NFL. He recorded 100 receptions, 1130 yards, and scored 6 touchdowns. With Smith moving to Vegas, the Seahawks signed Sam Darnold. JSN’s numbers skyrocketed. He led the league in yards with 1739 and scored 10 touchdowns on 119 receptions, en route to his first-ever All-Pro mention, and won the Super Bowl.

Despite playing with different quarterbacks, Chase and JSN had productive years. Jefferson did not.

JJ [Jefferson] is still a really good player. I just don’t think he’s a top two receiver in football anymore. I think is a bit too high on this list.

Douzable said

Fans quickly reminded Douzable that Jefferson has had nine quarterbacks since entering the league. Despite that, his 1000+ receiving yards streak is intact (six-straight). Even legendary Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco Johnson disagreed with Douzable’s words.

Analyst predicts Justin Jefferson leaving the Vikings

Jefferson signed a four-year, $140 million contract extension that includes $110 million guaranteed in 2024. It will run through the 2028 NFL season.

However, Prisco’s colleague at CBS Sports, Garrett Podell, sees Jefferson leaving early. And his destination? The Las Vegas Raiders.

Even though the Raiders are an exciting prospect, they lack a true WR1. Podell noted that the club was in a similar situation in 2022, before trading for All-Pro wideout Davante Adams.

They’ll make a similar effort to go all in on their offensive core of Mendoza, Bowers, and 2025 sixth overall pick running back Ashton Jeanty.

Podell wrote

The Vikings are unlikely to field any trade offers this year. They are waiting to see Murray’s impact on the team. If the gamble pays off, Murray could get a long-term contract, possibly extending Jefferson’s stay as well.
