It has been 10 years since the Boston Celtics picked Jaylen Brown as their third overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. The relationship between the player and the club has gone through some ups and downs in the last 10 years.

The highs were when Brown led the Celtics to their first championship in 16 years in 2024 by winning the Eastern Conference Finals MVP and Finals MVP awards. Meanwhile, the lows of their partnership took place when the club was looking to include Brown in a trade package for Kevin Durant in 2022.

In the end, Brown finds himself getting traded to the Philadelphia 76ers after everything he has achieved and done for the organization. The former champion reacted to his trade to the 76ers.

Boston, they packed me up. I will say, I’m still processing everything to be honest. It’s a bunch of excitement, disappointment, emotions. I’m still processing everything so give me time.

Based on his statements, the move to the 76ers was a shock to Jaylen Brown as well. While he did come up short in the playoffs this year, he was coming off a sixth-place finish in the MVP standings and posted career-high numbers. He averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in 71 appearances.

Despite failing to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo last week, the Celtics continued to look for options as Brown’s future remained up in the air. His move comes after he said that he wished he could stay in Boston for another 10 years if he could.

Brown is clearly disappointed with the events that have transpired over the last few days. He may take some time to process and get over it.

Jaylen Brown believes there was a lack of respect from Celtics

It is an unfortunate ending to Jaylen Brown’s 10-year spell with the Celtics. Since the failed trade for Durant in 2022, Brown has been instrumental in taking the club to two NBA Finals and winning them a championship in the next four years.

During his stream, Brown admitted that it was a bittersweet ending to his time in Boston and believes that the organization lacked respect during the trade talks.

I wasn’t thrilled with how the conversation was facilitated. I did feel like it was a lack of respect. At one point it was fine, and then out of nowhere it just went left. I definitely think there’s more to it. I know Brad is getting a lot of criticism, but I just wish more of it could have been explained. I just wish they had the respect to tell me exactly what it was, and I would have understood and respected that.

What makes the move mind-boggling is the Celtics traded away their best player for Paul George and a few picks. George is currently 35 years old and is coming off an injury-hit campaign. While Brown averaged nearly 29 points per game last season, George averaged just 17 points.

Jaylen Brown addresses his hate for the 76ers after his trade

There is no doubt that the 76ers are the clear winners of the trade at the moment. Trading for a player like Jaylen Brown has put them as strong contenders to come out of the East next year. He will join forces with the likes of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. However, Brown has always been known for having no love lost with the franchise.

Brown addressed his hate for the 76ers and how it will take some time to get over it.

For the last 10 years, I’ve been programmed to hate Philadelphia, from the history of the rivalry to the playoff battles, the process, like I’ve been programmed to be like f—k the process. It’s funny now, I gotta reverse engineer… They packed me up chat, Boston they packed me up.

There will not be a better opportunity for Embiid and the 76ers to contend for a championship. Since Embiid joined the club, they have never made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. The 76ers are coming off a second-round finish in the playoffs this year.
