Donald Trump‘s love for golf has been well documented. Despite his age, the U.S. President has often been seen golfing in his free time. Ahead of their clash against Norway in the quarter-final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, England captain Harry Kane opened up about his experience of playing golf with Trump and praised his game.

Last Sunday, England faced Mexico in the Round of 16 clash. Kane and his side traveled to Mexico City to play at the Estadio Azteca. This was their first visit to this stadium since the 1986 quarter-final clash against Argentina, where Diego Maradona scored the “Hand of God” and “Goal of the Century” goals.

In a feisty clash against hosts Mexico, England came out as 3-2 winners. A brace from Jude Bellingham and a penalty from Kane sealed the passage to the Last 8 for the Three Lions.

Following the game, Donald Trump praised Harry Kane. In a post on his Truth Social account, the 80-year-old expressed that Kane was a great player.

Trump later told reporters that Kane was also a good golfer and spoke about a round between them. During the press conference in Miami on Friday, the Bayern Munich striker revealed playing golf with Trump around 18 months ago and complimented his game.

I played alright to be honest. He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. … It was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him, and to play golf with him. His golf is pretty good, to be honest. I hope I can play golf as well as him when I’m his age.

Trump has claimed to have won several senior championships. Many have also accused him of cheating. Author Rick Reilly once called Trump the “worst cheater” in the game and even published a book called “Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump,” expressing how the U.S. President has many times systematically lied about his scores and course rankings.

Donald Trump faced extreme backlash at the FIFA World Cup

Donald Trump has often found himself on the receiving end of huge criticism following his political moves. At the FIFA World Cup, he faced extreme backlash after he intervened in the Folarin Balogun situation.

In the Round of 32 fixture between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Balogun was sent off. The USA international was shown a red card following a VAR review in the second half for his challenge on Tarik Muharemovic.

Balogun had given the United States a 1-0 lead just before half-time. American fans were left stunned by his sending off. A red card usually means a player misses the next game for his team due to suspension.

Trump then stepped in. He would call FIFA President Gianni Infantino to review the decision. FIFA later overturned his suspension, allowing Balogun to play against Belgium in the Round of 16.

Trump then found himself under heat from fans following his involvement in this. In the end, Belgium crushed USA 4-1 with a brace from Charles De Ketelaere and strikes from Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku. After the 4th goal, Lukaku and his Belgian teammates trolled the U.S. President by mocking his dance steps.

Speaking of the World Cup, France and Spain are through to the semifinals following 2-0 and 2-1 wins over Paraguay and Belgium, respectively. On Saturday, England will face Norway while defending champions Argentina face Switzerland.
